Recently came across this page about a guy called Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky (after seeing the Google Doogle a few weeks ago) and, boy is his work amazing. He was a Russian photographer who experimented with early colour photography, utilising the new technology to document the closing years of the Russian Empire.
