I mean stuff with neon aesthetics, with hi tech cities and all that, but without the pessimistic view on the future. If it is cyberpunk, then let's call it that. If it isn't then let's just put it as near future, neon sci fi.

The whole point of cyber-punk is the “worst outcome” for hyper-consumerism and technology overload. At its core it’s dystopian. It was never meant to be idolized or pretty. Cyberpunk is working if you feel anxious, sad, and possibly hopeless.

Sure it can be appreciated and looked at as cool, but just so we’re all on the same page that it’s not meant to be tumblr-core trendy aesthetic.

GitS SAC is considered cyberpunk and it appeared relatively comfy and looked aesthetically pleasing. Not really depressing at all. The only thing that would make anyone feel negative/depressed about it are certain concepts and issues that are faced in the series but I suppose that’s what really made it cyberpunk in the end.

I sort of agree, futurist and idyllic at first, but upon closer examination some things feel "off", the staticness of the statue-like people represented, certain presences of a more sinister vibe (top right walkway, lower left windows)

That's kind of the whole point of cyberpunk, the clash showing off the dystopian side of what technology can bring, having it visible between the cracks of the glowing hightech veneer. If you don't like that stuff then you don't like cyberpunk, you like some other genre of sci-fi.
