not sure if everybody here knows about this nice source of wallpapers. but shorpy's is a great place to find old style photos from as far back as the 1850s. you can find galleries detailing several subjects. currently, i am making my way through kodachromes because i dig that sort of photo.

a lot of the photos are not standard resolutions, but using mspaint or photoshop or whatever, you can get some nice desktops. heck, just using the windows options for manipulating the wallpaper, you can get some nice views.
