And the cities are dirty, crime ridden, full of drug addicts/drunks, and the views aren't good if you're in glaciated territory and aren't on the great lakes. BUT, during the summer especially, it's an incredibly beautiful region. So lush and idyllic, you can lose yourself in the emerald hills accented with pale wheat, the teeming forests with their broad leaves glistening in the wind, and listen to the birds sing, watch the ducks bathe and just breathe in the heavenly air. It's so damn nice in the summer that it almost makes up for the utter depression that is winter. It could be worse
