how do i regain access to a disk that won't initialize?

it's a samsung/seagate hdd (model ST1000LM024) that i used in my laptop. died one day but disk management still detects it so i have some hope. tried running seatools diagnostics on it to no effect. pic is what happens when i hit "Offline" in diskmgr, "Initialize Disk" is greyed out.
