All extreme points (maximums and minimums) will be at points where the derivative is zero OR at the ends. These are called critical points.
Not all critical points are absolute maximums or minimums, so you need to calculate their values and compare them, but the largest critical point will be the absolute maximum and the smallest critical point will be the absolute minimum.
