What happened to the way the internet pages are made nowdays?
I mean, I remember that in the 90's, a lot of pages used sound backgrounds (mostly midi), was there some "revolution" or something which made this to become different?
There were also those "effects" (like snowflakes for christmas, or flower petals, or raining, etc), I'm not sure if something happened which made these things to stop for whatever reason.
Are there any documents, or anything telling why this happened, and since when?
I guess the background gif images got removed due their usual low quality and big size (if you wanted a better quality) made the pages load slower, but nowadays most places have high speed internet.
