Both are crap, but I vape almost all the time and I want to know if I'm further away from cancer than my friend who smokes cigarettes.

Cigarette. By a lot.
Vaping is basically just inhaling glycerine and propylene glycol vapor with a bit of aroma and nicotine.
The nicotine is by far the least problematic part of cigarettes.
There are many proposed but no actually known side effects of the other two. The only thing is the nicotine.

We will still have to wait some years to know if vaping is as bad.

If you're saying people are inhaling something completely lethal, then you need to explain all those people vaping all day long for years now and not dropping dead. The death rates are far lower for vaping
