please recommend some anime, I have watched so many over the years that despite watching anime every week, the last series I finished was months ago. it seems like there simply isn't more good anime

Have you seen Ergo Proxy? It fits somewhat in the same vein as though show, at first.
I'm like halfway through it now, and it's a post-cyberpunk noir that deal's gnoctism.

Has a very "Big O for gothic adults" feel.

thank you for the huge recommendation, but I really am quite skeptical about it, since you included garbage such as
GATE, misfit of Demonking Academy, Maria the Virgin Witch, Akira, or Your Name

here's the ones I dropped:
casshern - mc is a retard, also don't like the episodic formula (stinks of kino no tabi which at least was somewhat interesting)

here's the ones i watched:
Claymore - the journey formula was really nice, but the relationships between mc and that woman was weird
Babylon - reddit-tier philosophy bs
escaflowne - watched the movie, seemed like something made for children
aldnoah.zero - very comfy, mc wasn't a retard which was a breath of fresh air, really enjoyed it. 2nd season was shit
future diary - relationship between mc and the woman was weird, mc was a retard but realistic one, the format of running around and fighting was boring
jin-roh - predictable but really good overall
vampire hunter d - the remastered version is far better than the original, one of the few anime that managed to make 'run around and fight' format entertaining

rest i don't remember or barely remember (for example I think I dropped votoms because it was childish but at the same moment i don't remember what it was about)
