Looking for new anime to watch. Here's my list

My favorite animes are Madoka Magica, Nichijou and Steins;Gate. I also enjoyed Haruhi and most Gainax/Trigger shows, despite their flaws. I'm not interested in shonen, isekai and depressing shows with bad endings (sad endings are okay). I'm also looking for any well-known anime that I might've not seen before, so I'm mostly happy to watch anything.

I'm looking for an OVA about some dude who controls a giant white creature that can transform itself into a car, then some girl finds out about it and then some other guy with a bigger creature appears and then both fight and the mc ends up losing an arm or something?
I remember seeing somewhere that a second episode was released some time ago but now I don't remeber the name of the show. can you help me?

Yes!!!! That is it!!! thank you a lot anon, this was really bothering me.
if I may make a suggestion now, I'd recommend blood-c, soredemo machi wa mawatteiru and the live action adaption of prison school even if you don't like live action stuff (I generally don't but loved this one).

I noticed you have the 2003 version of FMA on hold. You might want to watch Brotherhood instead, since specifically said you don't like depressing shows with bad endings, and that's what Bones ended up doing with FMA's story in the 2003 anime. Brotherhood sticks to the manga, and is a much more positively themed story overall. You said you don't like Shounen, but I see MHA on there with good a positive rating so I'm guessing it's probably more that you are averse to certain shounen cliches and tropes and you just need to find the ones you like. FMA is a good pick because it's widely considered a top tier shounen series.

I'm also curious about why you dropped Luluco. You say you like Trigger/Gainax, but given what you watched and enjoyed, it's more accurate to say you're a fan of Hiroyuki Imaishi, who directed Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Panty & Stocking, Kill la Kill, and Space Patrol Luluco. Other than Luluco, the only other Trigger/Gainax show you watched and didn't care for was Little Witch Academia, which he also didn't direct. So it makes me wonder why you didn't like Luluco when it's basically pure fanservice for fans of Imaishi.

I think you have a nice backlog to get through of popular shows, and I have only two main additions I'd make to it right now:

>Gunbuster and Diebuster (aka Top wo Narae)
Two OVA series from Gainax, in the mecha genre. Each is only 6 episodes, but they are long episodes (40-50 minutes) so it rounds out to be a normal length for a 12 episode series. The ending isn't sad, exactly, it's more bittersweet, but packs an immense emotional punch every time I see it. This series was a huge inspiration for Imaishi when he made Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and he actually worked on Diebuster as a keyframe animator.

I think you need to watch a little more anime to better get a handle on your likes / dislikes, at this stage you mostly watch whatever is popular / good.

I planned to to watch Brotherhood after 2003. When I put a show on hold, I always come back to it. I'm in the early episodes of 2003, but I knew some parts of its ending. I draw a line between depressing and dark; if the characters try and make a good difference despite a bad outcome, I'm fine with that. I'm not into stories where everyone has a nihilistic outlook on life. Should've clarified that in the OP, I apologize.

More or less. MHA is cliche, but it also uses cliches in new ways I can enjoy. Actually, I enjoy MHA more for the worldbuilding than anything. I don't care for the main characters, but some of the side characters are really cool.

I didn't care for the humor, even though I like Imaishi's work. When I first saw Luluco though, I haven't seen any of Gainax and Trigger works, save for Kill la Kill and LWA. But I wouldn't mind trying Luluco again.

They sound pretty rad. I loved Gurren Lagann, and was thinking of watching something a little shorter next. I thought of dive into the mecha genre too.

I do want to move on, that's for sure. Watching popular anime helped me get into it, but I don't want to stick to just that either. That said, I now know I enjoy anime that mixes sci-fi and contemporary. I enjoy most comedies too.
