Do you think it might just be able to "blend" the image into the book's cover just a bit more, so it looks more like it's the cover and not just mostly overlaid over the top, possibly?

That's just about perfect now. The only think I think I'd want to change is that I think how bright white the book in his hand is catches the eye a little too much, could we maybe try and make it a slightly more muted grey in the recursive version perhaps?
