And Mari being a version of Anno's wife doesn't make it fanfic. Rei being inspired by any person or relationship doesn't become fanfic when you like the TV show result but hate the Rebuild result.
I have yet to read any evidence that contradicts TV Rei and Rei Q were clones with Q having only a portion of her soul.
If you want to talk about Reis that are not "real" versions of that fictional character top of the list is the How's It Hanging Rei. There were no complaints about her because she was fun and delightful but the entire point of that Rei is that it was not the "real" Rei.
You can add to that video game Rei where for example she works fast food or becomes a scientist or whatever, doujin Reis, fanart Reis, etc.
From the 3.0+1.0 reports, Rebuild is a continuation of the story from the TV series and outside of headcanon, it is pure mental illness to say the TV show reality counts and the Rebuild reality doesn't count.

The issues Anno addressed are universal even if the details are different for every individual. Eva is about learning to be comfortable with yourself and then finding a partner who makes you happiest.
