I've said many times I found Rebuild 3 to be a mess of a story. I'm not a particular fan of the story the Rei only has part of her soul but I guess after the way Rebuild 2 ended there isn't much else that can be done with the story. Having Rei return and still be completely Rei without some effects to overcome would be worse than Shinji having to do more weird stuff to unify Rei's soul.
That is rational analysis.
Irrational is "Waaah I hate this so much I don't care if the title is Rei Q is Rei I am going to pretend the world inside my head is the only world that exists."
It is insane that Asuka fans can recognize Asuka even with a name change and Rei fans think keeping Rei's name the same is somehow proof the character is now someone different.
