Today is Rall's birthday!
Rall's archetype is Gunther Rall, who served with (and later led) JG-52 on the Eastern Front. He was badly wounded in 1941, breaking his back in three places, and was told he'd never fly again. Disregarding the doctors, he hid his injuries and kept flying. By the end of the war, he achieved 275 kills in 620 missions. This makes him Germany's (and the world's) third highest scoring ace of all time.
After the war, Rall joined the West German air force and rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. He retired from service in 1975, and died in 2009.
