>>3002838More like, he starts with what he feels at a particular moment and builds contrivances to shift the narrative where it is "harmonious" with his emotional state. The best example of this is End of Evangelion and all the added material that came with it, like the so-called "director's cut" versions of the episodes, especially episode 22'. I finished my rewatch yesterday and the more I think about it, the more idiotic the retcons in episode 22' are. There are so many tonal shifts introduced in the story retroactively during that episode that are strange at best, like Asuka almost undressing herself for Kaji on the ship before they meet the other guys which is incongruous with how Kaji and Asuka act afterwards as shown in episodes 8 and beyond (including Kaji casually going shopping for clothes with Asuka.) The guy is a womaniser but he is clearly shown at all points to not have a thing for young girls or Asuka in particular.
But none of this matters to Anno. He was feeling down while he was working on EoE so he introduced some dramatic scenes into the Death and Rebirth film without caring whether they fit or not.
The guy is a solipsistic storyteller.
>>3002993>which is more than you can say of that dumpster fire called 3.33.I don't know about you, but I am not so sure anymore. Many of the problems in 3.33 seem to me now to not be unique to it, or even unique to the Rebuilds. Anno got depressed after the 2011 earthquake/tsunami disaster (he is on record saying 3.33's plot was changed after that happened and that it clearly affected him; and he seems to have been affected by it so strongly that one film which draws from those events wasn't enough, he also used it as inspiration in the new Godzilla film, something that he is also on record saying). He internalised the world going to shit and wrote a story in the film where the world is also going to shit.
