Which doesn't even make sense, by the time 2.22 was out there was only half a story where Rei from the previous movie was 99.9% identical. It turned out with 3.33 that "Pokanami" would be unable to live up to the quality and sincerity the original Rei Ayanami character had.
What is your specific gripe with reality, exactly? The reason Asuka fans and the Asuka thread gets brought up, is because the behavior you're describing fits that fanbase rather than ours. Because keep in mind, that even in the franchise Asuka's flaws have been strategically edited out in order to "not harm the Asuka fans", as explained by writers working at Khara.
