But she was in the Egyptian Army, as was Ana. After Ana stonewalled Fareeha from joining Overwatch, she enlisted, and earned her commission and a distinguished service commendation, and at this point was 'well placed to join Overwatch', when it was disbanded. At THIS point, she retired and was offered a job at Helix. Pharah’s Bio on Play Overwatch says as much.
The point I was wondering is surely if Ana was so determined to block Fareeha from joining OW, she’d try and convince her old army friends to try and keep her out...somehow. But Micheal didn't think before making new lore again apparently.
