>>2473598I agree on the interpretation, as it matches very closely with Rei as the character from NGE. Although, not necessarily from before the time of Armisael, I see it applying afterwards as well. In fact, it wouldn't quite work without moments from episode 24 and 25.
Especially the part about confronting her inner self is important, as it's brought up in episode 25 as part of Rei's self-confrontation. It's an all-round Rei poem we've got, not just prior to Armisael.
But there are things that don't match with the original.
All of these ideas, feelings have an equivalent in NGE, it's something the character uttered, felt or thought. Except two, the "me that is dirty" as well as "sex". Rei has referred to each and every one of these in the anime, but never those two, although the former could be interpreted as self-doubt or self-hatred. (for being afraid)
The second one is sex. Again, your interpretation works if it refers to an external elements, but it's not something Rei thought about in NGE still. But others did, and all of those things are important to some of them.
But of course, I'm pretty much triggering here, since there's an element I don't wish or like to see brought up at all.
As for the western fanbase,
>>2473604nails it for this end of the fanbase at least. Although I don't quite lend the trust you both seem to do towards Megumi. Otherwise, I don't see how she could have stomached doing Q or any other similarly denigrating work. I know it's not right to project myself like this, but it seems hard to believe.
I think that Megumi raises one valid point, and that is that further speculation is pointless. It's only going to make things worse, and I share the sentiment that digging into what Anno and the rest has said about Rei will just result in more trouble than it's worth.
