>>3862111for me, homura's key virtue is suffering. all else that comes to mind when tulpa-ing her comes from the fact that her existence is painful (i want to see her happy as respite, i want her to love madoka because madoka is the only personality she has, etc.). part of the beauty of that suffering is the way that magica quartet illustrated it. nearly every scene in rebellion is inside homura's mind, and nearly every shot composition illustrates profound self-hatred, mania, and paranoia.
were i more retarded than i evidently am, i could imply that homura is schizophrenic, but the series never uses that for more than aesthetics -- which incidentally only strengthens my attraction to the aesthetic.
as for why that image is so wonderful to me, it's just the fact that it brings together the self-loathing (she's framed in shadow, sweating, bent over, scared, etc.), the schizophrenic use of her past selves (i could go on about the lotte army, but i just love the aesthetic of a massive army that always inches towards mutiny), and the fact that it's all over after a quick cry.
tl;dr i like postmodernism
