Don't get me wrong, SEL is a very good show (and seems to have a lot more fanart) which has only become more relevant as time goes on and I think has a lot of merit in that. But Haibane Renmei had so much more of an emotional impact on me, something that I look for and enjoy greatly. I love character-drama kinds of stories, and there's plenty of that present with Rakka and Reki.
Maybe it's a bit unfair to compare them when they're both wildly different shows, but that's my shpeil on it I guess.
