Cab-over-engine shortens the length of the truck, reducing the turning radius.
It also moves the driver closer to the front of the vehicle, shrinking the blind spots.
Doesn't even have to be a "flat face" truck like stereotypical EU designs anymore. Even the EU has amended their design regulations to allow aerodynamic cab-over-engine designs without flat faces.
And what the fuck is with extended cab trucks? Why are truckers driving a fucking hotel room around with them? Waste of fuel and makes the truck even more grotesquely huge.
It's definitely not a magic fix for the problem, because blind spots will always still exist.
But the fact North America seems to throw up their hands and go, "Ehhh, safety for people outside the truck isn't part of the regulations? Not our problem!" is definitely killing people in order to make it slightly more convenient and cheaper for trucking companies.
