I want to buy my first “real” digital camera. Years ago I had a Lumix G7 that I used for school and hobby video projects, that taught me the basics of photography. I have since sold it and recently found a passion for 35mm film photography. I love traveling with my OM-1 and shooting pictures, to experience the trip anew once film is scanned is very fun. I think extensive editing behind a computer goes against the joy of photography. I don’t want to take a hundred pictures through lightroom and autistically edit the raw files. I want to capture a moment that I can later revisit with friends and family. The cost of shooting film has made me consider buying a digital camera. I understand it’s a meme, but I was immediately drawn to Fuji cameras since they heavily market themselves “retro” in both form and function. I love the film simulation, since it would allow me to capture great shots without the hassle of editing. What discourages me from getting the X100VI are the hate threads on this board, and the fact that it has a fixed prime lens.
What I’m basically looking for is a camera that has a similar joy to use like film photography. An optical viewfinder, as well as general compact portability and ruggedness, for taking into boats and jungles and deserts. I want an interchangeable lens format, and I prefer fullframe, though I understand that takes away some portability (I don’t really know why though). I honestly hate how “perfect” photos from a Nikon look, almost like an uncanny valley of hyper realism. People don’t experience life that way. Pic related. Maybe I sound totally ignorant to the pro’s on here, this is just my opinion.
