what's actually correct seems to be the tuning of the sensor/pixel readout. according to photonstophotos, the best value (in my budget) cameras seems to be eos r and x-s10. even though the x-s10 sensor is bsi and newer than the 30mp sensor, that old sensor captures lower light (iso can be cranked higher) with similar noise by at least 1 stop (12800 in x-s10 vs 25600 in eos r), and dynamic range is similar at 12800 in photonstophotos experiments.
my point is- cmos tech has NOT changed much since the 5d iv, probably even before that if you look at x-t2 vs x-t3/x-s10 dynamic range.
what exactly is holding up sensors/pixels reading higher dynamic range? where can i read some eli5/tldr level research?
