in camera meters can't meter non TTL flash and strobes. Histograms are only part of the story and don't tell you how much light is getting to a specific spot., so a flash meter is essential.
for landscape spot meters are tits. meters in MF are worthless, and LF has none, spot meters allow you to get a reading on that far mountain range as well as the shadows in the darkest distant forest. The Seconic 398 is a nice incident lite meter because it doesn't use batteries, though it has not spot and no flash meter, it is a good backup for the landscape guy (what I use mine for), it is a little better than guessing at exposure, and if you know a few tricks you can get a pretty accurate idea of exposure (its all about creating the right amount of shadow with your hand).
