>>3278049I use a VC Meter II. At close focus it’s useless due to parallax, but if I’m doing close focus it’s probably in my hand being used as a spot meter than on my camera. It measures a 30 degree field of view, so about the area of a 75mm lens. I like 50mm and 35mm and wider, so it’s to me like a center weighted-meter when I’m shooting at 4 meters or further.
I often measure once and then take it off my camera for a while, unless it’s indoors or it’s sunset or cloudy, or both (changing light.)
It’s probably overpriced but I find it super reliable for sanity checks. It’s made me really accurate at guessing outdoor exposures, since I guess first and then check with this, and a center-weighted meter is good for these sanity checks.
I might need a spot meter later on, but for now this works well. If I want to quickly get one reading and take it off my rangefinder, I point it a try my hand and then remember the EV, since I like human subjects.
