i just walk trails until i find something, i cbf waiting more than 5min at a single spot
how long it takes to actually get a decent shot is pure luck, could be as soon as i get out of car or right as im leaving
location matters alot, the tall dry gum forests arent the best
look on ebird/inaturalist maps for hotspots and keep exploring new places
flowering trees, fruit trees, small shrubs, long grass and any source of water are best place to find birds down low
also need to decide if you want to sit and wait with a tripod or get a light setup and walk around
a big ass lens on a tripod is always going to get better shots, but i find it boring as fuck and would rather do that approach when im old and cant walk
