>>4224538Its purpose as a fast lens is to create object separation and create creamy background renditions for portraits.
1.8 is poorfag cope but I'll allow it because it's a good lens, I've owned almost every 85 up to the 1.4D and the 1.8 AF-D was a good lens and what I upgraded from. Also, the bodies I use it on I could just shoot it at box speed and pull down the whites and highlights in post to fix the background which I have done before. I have an original 85/1.8 pre-AI that has been converted to AI-s and it's a nice lens too.
>>4224555That's setting the bar kind of low, Nikon never really had a good sharp 35 after the 2.5 rangefinder lens until very recently with the G. I had an f2 AF-D and it was fairly soft wide open as is my 35/2 pre-AI, and my 35/1.4 AI-s was pretty damn soft wide open. Stopped down they weren't exactly winners but they were good enough. The 35/2.8 was really the only older 35 they had that was any good.
>>4224561That 55/2.8 is one of Nikon's sharpest lenses ever, I have the rare autofocus 1:1 model and it makes my eyes bleed on my D800, it doesn't get used as much as my Sigma 50 ART but when it does get used, holy shit. I recently serviced it too.
