Well, there was no point in dancing around the issue. If you wanted any chance at getting into that vault and getting anything worthwhile, you’d have to take out the guards for the control rooms without them raising any alarms. Now, that would be exceptionally hard, even if you had an idea of what the interior layout was like. You’ll improvise, yet again, and feel your way through this situation.

And if it didn’t pan out, then you’d just have to find some other way to get them to chase you. No big deal.

For obvious reasons, none of you had the time or opportunity to plan out how this part of the operation would go. And considering the actual size of the UFO you were meant to be infiltrating, you found it hard to believe that you’d be able to get in without being noticed.

Hell, you were starting to find it hard to believe that more than a few people were capable of fitting into that room.

But, you were in too deep to back down now. And that was how you and Cat found yourselves hanging upside-down from a prop UFO, rewiring some of the electrical controls to shut down the barrier that prevented you from forcefully entering the craft.

Unsurprisingly, your cloaking devices had, well…a cloaking function. One that allowed you to blend into your surroundings if you moved as little as possible. Space would blur and warp around where Cat’s hands were, but there was very little that you could do about that. You were only getting worried because the aliens in the other craft were more than capable of glancing outside their tinted windows and seeing that exposed wires were dangling from the underside of the alternate control tower.

Thankfully, with Araña’s help, Cat managed to momentarily power down the grid so the three of you could slip inside. And when you did manage to get in there, you couldn’t help but think that Rollo’s boys had access to fancier technology than you’d been led to believe. The inside of this UFO seemed to be about four or five times bigger than it was on the outside! You had your suspicions when you saw the blueprints of the larger UFO, but now you knew for sure.

There was some sort of spatial distortion going on here. You didn’t know how, but you’d be lying if you said that you weren’t impressed with their work here. Much like the other ship, the interior was futuristic, but luxurious and practical enough that it didn’t feel as alien as it should.

Just then, the sound of approaching footsteps snapped you back to attention, and you quickly found a place to hide before anyone could catch you before you’d even gotten a chance to start taking these guys out.

As Araña pressed herself against the wall, you could see her form blur for a moment as she adjusted the wrist strap that held her grappling hook. Now, the spider was further up on her hand, the legs pulled back, and a series of darts loaded into the front.

More than anything, you’ll need Prowler to knock out their security systems and trick their cameras. Straight up deactivating them would raise suspicion, and probably have the whole place on lockdown within a few minutes.

It might take some time, but you‘d benefit more from taking things slow and waiting until you had access to their camera feeds and sensors. Then, you’d be able to track the Chameleon’s movements and support Abel from the outside, where you and Felicia would be keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity.

Although, you think you might have an idea for making the infiltration process a little easier.

“Prowler, what’s your progress on that cloaking tech that you and Sam were working on?” you asked.

He folded his arms over his chest and let out a sigh. “It works, but I can’t maintain the cloaking field for longer than an hour or two. Any more than that, and we’d risk burning out the wires from the energy draw required from the power source. Still not sure how the kid managed to make his old suit work with AA batteries.”

“That’s better than nothing. The new guy could use all the help he can get.” you said while pouring over the blueprints.

“New guy? What new guy?” Cat chimed in.

“There’s a guy I know. We’ve pretty much got the same powers. He agreed to help me with this job.” you answered.

The other two exchanged a look, and you could already guess what they were thinking.

“Don’t worry, we can trust him.” you reassured them.

“Right. And what should we call this ‘trusted partner’ of yours?” Felicia asked.

What will you say?

All in all, you were pretty content with the movie you’d chosen. It was the type of mindless action that Felicia seemed to enjoy in a movie, and it proved to be a decent distraction for whatever had been on Cindy’s mind.

And while you weren’t nearly as invested as she was, you and the others made at least a vague attempt to keep up with the plot. What little there was to keep up with, that is. In between fight scenes, you, Felicia and Prowler would question Cindy on the weaknesses and tendencies of vampires.

“Wooden stake to the heart?” you asked.

Cindy glanced back at you, clicked her tongue and dragged a thumb across her throat. That meant that it would kill them instantly.

“Silver?” Felicia suggested.

Cindy repeated the gesture and nodded, letting you know that silver was far more potent than you originally thought. Sunlight was an obvious one, but you were completely surprised to learn that garlic was actually effective in sapping the strength of vampires. There was also the matter of vampires not being able to enter a private residence, but you doubted that that would come in handy when you kicked their door down and raided their base.

“What about crosses?” Prowler said.

Cindy paused, brought out a notepad and started scribbling. According to her, religious symbols are effective for staving off an attack, but they’re only effective in the hands of someone who believes in the faith. You’re not sure how many believing Christians there are left in the world. The existence of aliens and literal gods has done a bit of a number on organized religions. People just don’t have that same type of zealous faith that they used to.

“How do you know about all this stuff?” you asked, giving voice to the question that was undoubtedly on everyone’s minds.

Cindy went back to scribbling in her notepad. She then turned it around so that everyone could see.

“Your parents made this a part of your training?” Prowler confirmed.

Cindy nodded and scribbled something else. In summary, the “Hand of Khonshu” must be well versed in dealing with any and all creatures that stalk the night.

Feeling as if you’d learned more than enough on the topic of killing vampires, you began to wonder whether you’d need it for your encounter with Michael Morbius. Just because Cindy knew where to find him didn’t mean that he or his patrons were going to be friendly to a bunch of humans walking into their territory.

That being said, there was now way that you could get your hands on pure silver on such short notice. Garlic, wooden stakes and religious symbols were easy enough to obtain, but you didn’t know how effective those things would be in an up close and personal fight.

“We’re lucky that there was some truth to those cheesy horror movies that you and Prowler like. At least you’ll have a few tricks up your sleeve when you go to meet this ‘Morbius’ guy.” Felicia said.

You took that as your cue to leap from your perch and swing down towards the docks. Now the other armed men were backing up and pointing their guns at you. You weren’t particularly afraid. Mostly because you didn’t feel that little buzzing sensation in the back of your head. You’d recently begun to equate that with danger.

“Nice threads, handsome. Love the new look.” Cat said, not trying to hide the fact that she was checking you out.

“Thanks. You were right about the fur. It’s really growing on me.” you whispered, running a hand down your fur cloak. It was thick enough for you to conceal both your arms beneath it, as well as a decent amount of your weapons and gadgets.

“I’ll have to add ‘trendsetter’ to my resume.” Cat said, stroking the furry parts of her costume.

Prowler gave you a once over with his eyes. You could tell that he was impressed with the final product, but he didn’t say as much out loud.

“Glad you could finally make it.” the well-dressed man said. “What am I supposed to call you?”
