“Have the fleet spread out and form a line. Crush the column before it reaches us and leave nothing of the pirates.” You command.
Swiftly shifting and changing, you watch as the distance between you and the pirates closes. By the time sporadic fire becomes a unified wall of fire, the pirates had almost entirely closed the distance.
With a literal wall of rounds, you watch as some frigates are caught and obliterated, torn asunder and shred to bits, but it they are too few.
Like a swarm of mice around an elephant, the frigates begin to manoeuvre around your ships, gunnery crews changing up their targets allow for further pirate forces to close the distance, to such an extent that all of the destroyers had reached you battle line.
Your own frigates begin to harry and chase the foe, your larger vessels becoming impromptu battlefields upon which lives of hundreds are snuffed out in moments. The new generation frigates, though overwhelmed by superior numbers score a fair share of kills, before one is simply overwhelmed. Ironically caught in between the broadsides of two Vigilances, whom did not open fire to support, out of fear of hitting their own side.
With a concentrated force, you watch as Desmond duels against the other destroyers, Mikel and Giacomo rushing to his aid whilst Datz if busying shaking her destroyers in a desperate attempt to throw off the biting frigates.
Turrets rotate like crazy; flashes look like showers of fireworks as each and every vessel is giving its damndedst to survive.
Spraying debris like shotgun shots, obliterated frigates, both friendly and hostile, scatter across the cold space, large swathes of it imbedding itself into the tick plates of your heavier vessels, others bouncing off and spiralling out of control, become permanent markers of the battle waged here as they begin to spread out across the star system. You watch as the last wolf-class hurls itself into a particularly daring pirate captain, whom tried to ram the bridge of your own Timur. Unfortunately, Teigon had not been so lucky, as one frigate rams itself entirely into primary command bridge. Tense moments later, did you feel relief wash over you as reports come in indicating that the command staff managed to successfully evacuate and relocate to the secondary command bridge before the impact. The Ever Vigilant will continue to fight on.
What will not continue however, will be Mikel’s command ship for “Ironclad courage” as it suffers catastrophic engine failure, finding itself faced with four Reavers to its rear. As the ship breaks under the weight of sustained fire, escape pods are launched. Luckily, the pirates do not have the time to finish off survivors, as Giacomo had won his two on one duel, and Desmond, the crazy bastard, had now launched two separate boarding actions, mid combat, against two of the four destroyers that finished off Mikel’s command.
