As worried as you were, you knew that it would be extremely inappropriate to make the decision for him. So, you presented the question to him and everyone else.
<span class="mu-r">“Hey, bud. You sure you want to go down there? There’ll be an awful lot of water for you to deal with.”</span>
Flint made a slight hissing noise that you identified as a sharp, but unnecessary intake of air. He seemed to be mulling it over in his head, but somehow, you both knew what he would say.
For as long as you've known him, Flint has always been loyal to a fault. He'd do anything to protect the people he cares about. Which is why you couldn't help but feel a bit guilty about asking him to do this. Because you already knew exactly what his response would be the moment his smug mug of his reared its ugly head.
<span class="mu-g">"Of course. Who’s gonna pull your ass out of the fire if I don’t show?"</span>
<span class="mu-r">“I think you’ll find that the chances of my ass catching fire are extremely unlikely these days.”</span>
<span class="mu-b">“Don’t I know it.”</span>
No one else seemed to notice the words that Gloria muttered under her breath, and you were absolutely fine with that.
You were simultaneously relieved and anxious about Flint’s decision. Knowing that he’d have your back every step of the way was insanely reassuring, but being surrounded by his natural weakness was an inevitable snag in the plan that you really didn’t want to have to face. And the Prowler didn’t seem at all impressed with Flint’s flippant attitude.
<span class="mu-g">“You shouldn’t be down there at all if you don’t have a backup plan or two. I’m not scooping you into a bucket or vacuuming you off the floor if you can’t hold it together.”</span>
<span class="mu-g">“Oh, yeah? Well unlike you, I don’t run and hide when the going gets tough. I’m a team player.”</span>
Both men scowled at each other, but everyone knew that the Prowler was right. Even Cat spoke up in support of him.
<span class="mu-b">“Never hurts to be prepared, big guy. You’re our heaviest hitter. There’s no mistaking that. And if you go down, then what chance do we have?”</span>
Flint gave her a thoughtful look, and Ana nodded her agreement. And with that meeting adjourned, the final preparations for your big job in Vegas were coming to a close.
