But instead of retaliating with his sword, the Lost Boy did something far more impressive. He twisted in mid-air, tucked his legs in, and his whole body…blurred for a moment. You heard a pop, and one of the drowners went flying! Another series of pops, and several more went hurtling back down to the sea.
You strained your eyes to see what was happening, and you almost couldn’t believe it when you saw it! Peter was repeatedly flying into the drowners like a human cannon ball, his form blurring with each movement. Those “pops” you were hearing was very likely Peter breaking the sound barrier with each dash.
Hill told you that he was fast, but this was ridiculous!
It all happened in the blink of an eye. Mere moments later, all of the climbing drowners had been swatted away by Peter’s cheeky move. He was grinning madly now.
<span class="mu-g">“Everybody stand back, and prepare to be amazed!”</span> Peter declared, whipping his swords out and raising them into the air. Then, Peter began to spin.
The Lost Boy descended onto the deck as a whirlwind of flashing steel, slashing away at each and every tentacle that was exposed and above water. It was like watching a weed whacker mow through a tangle of vines!
Eventually, the beast decided that now was an optimal time to retreat. Without its tentacles for the drowners to climb back onto the ship, or its drowners to toss them overboard for an easy meal, the overgrown lizard cut its losses and dove for the murky depths it called home.
Once its massive shadow disappeared completely below the water, you all allowed yourselves to breathe a collective sigh of relief.
