>>9517006It's kinda complicated in GER and EU, but basically when a design stems from functionality, you can't protect it. That includes groves on the bottom of tules and such. So the CMF minifig plate could probably be protected, but a 3×4 plate couldn't. Otherwise Lego could be prevented from using a 1×5 plate or 1×3 jumper, as others had it first.
There is however something like a 3D-brand, the Lego minifig is an example. So no matter the functionality, nobody is allowed to copy that.
