The designs themselves aren't the worst. The effort and execution are the worst. They're all overly-simplified, lazy and have shit proportions because some dude got paid pennies to sketch them out as cheaply as possible back in 1984. I have absolutely no problem with toys doing G1 designs, as long as they're actually thought out and not just gimped to look like lazy Korean scribbles.
This is the pain of being a guy who likes G1 in spirit, but just thinks the cartoon is ugly. People always assume if you hate the cartoon, then you MUST like the clusterfuck of Bayformers or whatever. I just like the middle-ground, but that is such a foreign concept to people nowadays, and not just concerning toys. I always thought Guido Guidi's G1 update art was schway as fuck. Pic-related. I'd be fine with a whole line of toys that tried to duplicate this aesthetic, and really the older MP figures were pretty close.
