Arguably Trendmasters was more stable with non/small license over their movie lines.Probably sold less, but less overhead selling some $7 John Carter packs over $50 electronic '98 Godzillas that got overordered.
They had a VERY fast improvement in terms of quality though. I get what you mean by the John. Carter stuff looking wonky, but the next year they did the ID4 toys which look impressive to this day.The Mars Attacks stuff early on was based on the current comics, but once they did the movie lines they hit incredible accuracy. There's no fucking way you could say the Iron Giant or Godzilla 98 lines have bad sculpts.
