That is still all about consuming more products, thinking you need shit like that, when we just made do with what we had, because it was enough... even if we owned a hundred vehicles and a dozen of the same figure.
The old guard could have fun with their toys no matter what we had or wanted to bring out. You can still see that in the 1:18 threads and the other threads where the old guard still posts. Anything and anywhere can be a diorama.
I don't think we really see that with 1:12 (or later) collectors because they see their shit as collectibles and not toys. They treat their 6" toys as statueshit, something that is to be left in a pose, never to be touched and put behind a glass case. You can see this mentality in the vast majority of threads. And this is despite that having outdoor, nature type photos actually scaling better with 1:12 figures.
The few lines that arent smaller sized figures that get creative play pictures seem to be the fucking Gunpla threads, despite being delicate shit. Same with Shinki type toys, which are also models(ish). Not coincidently, Figmas get a lot of play too, despite being more expensive than other import lines. Girlie/cute shit gets played with.
Or maybe these threads only have more creative play posts because some of the old guard are posting there.
