>>9109738The lack of graphic scenes isn't so bad given the movie is meant to be a prequel to Gettysburg, standing on the merits of its characters and their personal stories rather than the physical violence of the battle. G&G just failed to deliver on that end and as a consequence we'll never get the final part of that trilogy, The Last Full Measure. Maybe some grit could've made up for those failings but I doubt it, especially when they felt that cutting Antietam entirely was necessary to make the theatrical version.
We're drifting a bit off-topic I guess but I'd hate to see what kind of blackwashed pandering we'll get whenever the next Civil War-era film is made; Midway was a rare unmarred historical epic in this day and age but it feels like they'd never let a Civil War one through without some meddling.
