>>9663638So with train MOCs there's a few things you need to keep in mind:
1) How big are you building it? Lego Standard 6-wide? Super-detailed 8-wide? Gigachad 7-wide? Think of the width of your train to older Speed Champions sets to newer ones if you need a non-train example. Just remember the wider your train is, the longer you have to make it too.
2) References are your friend, especially other models of the train you're trying to make. When I was building my Class 812s I used photos of an 00 scale model as my main reference regarding things like proportions and size.
3) Steam train internals are kinda rough for a first timer. If you're starting out, you might want to either just use the standard train motor as a basis or look up gearing tutorials on Yotuube.
4) Having trouble with motors still? Just build a car containing the motor/battery/receiver and leave the engine itself unpowered.
