City has shown itself to be eternal, and Space/Castle can at least reinvent itself with various factions/plots. Pirates has and will always just be "Pirates vs Redcoats/Bluecoats with islanders popping up sometimes", and the line will always be "Large pirate ship", "Smaller pirate/redcoat ships", and "Redcoat Ports" repeated ad-nauseam. Not saying that Pirates was a bad line, it simply just doesn't have the creative variety that general themes like Space or Castle have to last for an extended period of time without getting stale.
>B-b-but classic pirates lasted for like 8 years!In a period where the most experimental Lego got with its themes was Time Cruisers. Town, Castle, Space, and Pirates may have been the four major themes during the 80s up to the mid-90s, but a Pirates theme simply won't cut it these days unless you go and do Ninjago but with Pirates.
