Owner of LOTS of lego here... I had tons of lego as a kid, and now my 3 boys play with them nearly 30 years later. Plus the ones I've recently gotten them and will be getting them for christmas
Some observations after spending most of my life with Lego:
>The old minifigures are much higher quality than the newer ones. They break the new ones quickly, yet the old ones survived me as a kid AND survive my kids now. New bricks however seem to be the same quality as old bricks>Older lego sets often had large single-piece bases, making the creation more durable and easier to put back together. New lego sets usually do not, and are made of hundreds of tiny pieces put together for no reason other than inflating the Pieces Count, making it impossible to put them back together if dropped on a hard floorOne more thing: They're going to stop making them out of plastic by 2030, which will mean two things:
>Plastic legos will skyrocket in resale value, especially if still in box (Vintage lego always appreciate in value)>New ones are probably going to be made out pressboard Chineseium making their life much shorter than plastic varietyMy two cents: start buying Lego in the coming years if you want a very safe investment, and/or if you plan on having sons in the next few years.
