I am thinking of getting into Lego. I really enjoyed the architecture pyramid of Giza. The problem I am having is the price point of these nice sets are incredibly high. Used and playing the eBay game I can save a couple of bucks, but then with the VIP program, I was wondering if the point accumulation is worth it in any way?

The resell value is great if I ever want to get out of the hobby. Just want to know the optimal way to enjoy it.

Heard there were actual production issues for this set. (Seriously) Not sure what the hold up was but I've been told it wasn't the actual parts but the getting them together in the same facility and having everything boxed and ready to go. (For those few that don't know, All parts are not made in one location so they have to get everything together to make the set.) Hence the lack of the official announcement as of yet. Sources say it's any day now becasue they think they have everything under control. Fingers crossed. (Odd that no real leaks either this time around.) I haven't even heard any of the "LEGO Ambassadors" hint how they have it but can't talk/show it yet.

To participate in the event, simply build an original creature only using current Lego Technic parts, and upload it to lego.ideas.com between 10,8 and 8,10 2023. We suggest keeping part count within 50 pieces, but this is not a requirement. you can build whatever you like, but we strongly suggest sticking only to creatures; animals, bugs, sea life, and mythical creatures. Try not to build anything too humanoid or toa shaped. The goal of this is to show lego that there is interest in technic being more than just cars. And possibly show a demand for them. This will be a sort of stealth operation, share this with anyone and everyone who might be interested in this. We know Lego isn’t interested in bringing back bionicle, so what if we can convince them to make something adjacent?

Really I just need the main team and the villains of the week from JttW. Most of the sets have nothing to do with the books but have a character from it. Like Jin and Yin are both representatives in the book, but I really don't need three racecars the set comes with ect. Some sets though you get a giant chunk of the lore and are 100% worth it.

Been looking for a new hobby and trying to recreate JttW in Legos seems fun as with all my collections I try and make display pieces. Mixing and matching to make the missing characters will be super fun too. Been thinking about how to make a Jade Emperor recently.

I will have to play around with some of the premade figures too though. A lot has been dramatized to fit the theme and strayed away from the OG. Like Red Boy for example. But what is fun is basically every character introduced in the book comes with a long ass poem explain their attire, so trying to mimic it will also be a fun challenge. What is nice too is a lot of figures that come with particular sets can also be sold. I don't need 300 Wukongs, especially when he only has his fancy duds for less than a chapter. Breaking up sets I am sure hurts resale though.

I'm totally disillusioned with lego. I used to love lego, but now the sets are way over priced for the amount of stuff you get in the box, and I feel like part of that is them spreading out all of the licensing costs over everything, and its made everything just too expensive.

I miss when stuff was lego with a licensed theme, not a licensed theme but in lego. When did that change? Can it go back? Like early star wars stuff was fun, it was SW characters and vehicles resized to fit lego minifig scale, but now its tiny minifigs sitting inside of super over scaled hyper detailed ships. And its not just star wars, but literally every licensed theme does this. Also nearly every set is a vehicle of some kinds. If you want even a basic doll house set, its going to cost twice as much as the similar sized vehicle, and there will only be one for the entire series.

Also I stuck sith lego for as long as I have becaust it was the only toy company still producing old fashioned playsets. Sure, you had to build them, but they still made rock solid playsets with lots of action features and play built into them, but over time, even the playsets have turned into static dioramas you're supposed to look at on a shelf, not play with.

I fell for this trap too because all Lego has made for the past like 7 years are dust collectors. That's why I'm super picky with most licensed sets because it's usually just a bunch of shitty normal bricks and overpriced minifigs like the Vader vs Obiwan set. Some speculate that Lego realized during development that the set is going to be a disaster due to the original Ideas build being digital and physically impossible without severe redesigning.
For some reason they decided to still go through with it instead of flat out cancelling the set but they still held on to their initial budget goal and decided to throw in dozens of figures to reach it.

Lego has overtly commented on this. The plan was always 22 figs so when the actual set was downsized they just kept the figs. It's dumb mincery but they weren't added, they just weren't sensibly removed. Not only was the bin budget for this kit HUGE because they need a bin per printed and unprinted part, but I also bet a million dollars since the fig diversity was marketing's pet project they had production and printing started ahead of time while the real lego designers were shitting themselves trying to make the actual set work. Printing takes so little R&D and production effort which is why marketing is all over it. God forbid they shoehorn in something that requires building with lego.

I mis 90's to early 00's lego sw. It was bright and colorful and with a campy interpretation of sw stuff. Now its all hard core super realistic models with overly detailed fleshie minifigs.

Do you think it would be two buildings sold as one like the Pet Shop and the Bookstore? Or do you think it would be similar to the Downtown Diner where it's a pizza shop on the bottom and a jazz bar up top via a side entrance?

I also imagine, for some reason, it would be styled like 1970s New York if that makes sense. I could also see it being more European in style, maybe, but for some reason I just think pizza and jazz fit more with a New York style.

I've had mixed results with aftermarket stickers. Honestly what I end up doing is just buying the parts with stickers on them through bricklink, which is cheaper than finding a sticker set for older sets. That's what I did for fort legoredo and the other western sets, was able to get the stickered pieces for those sets very cheap in good condition.

I bought reproduction stickers for both sets on ebay and they were both very poorly printed and inaccurate to the original designs. It astounded me because you think they would just scan the original stickers to make them accurate, but reproduction ones are using cheap printers that just don't match the quality of the original stickers.

So out of my childhood pieces I think the only somewhat valuable things I own that I wouldnt mind getting rid of is a Nesquik Bunny, classic Slave Leia and Classic Jabba. What's the more efficient way of selling them? I would prefer if I could sell them all together for a bit cheaper than I would price them individually, don't think I could be hassled with the headache that is shipping something(especially for someone who never did it) to get like 30 euros or something. Around 100 and get it over with in a single go seems more worth the effort.

i don't know, those sets are really, really blocky, i know it's lego but still.
my favorite era is probably mid to late 2000's. they just incorporated flesh tones but still used the classic smiles. looks accurate to the movies, and still has SOVL.

Got the Christmas display up, had built the layout with 9V in mind asides from the part of the passing loop that faces the station (Had a gap that couldn't be filled without the use of the flex track) so I can only run my PF/Bluetooth stuff at the moment. The station is temporary as I wait for a parted-out Winter Village Station to arrive to replace it.

Thinking of getting Holiday Main Street to fill out the display a bit too, but I'm not a fan of how thin the buildings in it are compared to the previous sets. Anyone here try filling them out in the back yet?

Forgot to mention the reason why I can only do non-9V stuff right now is due to my only 9V track power cable's cord rotting after 20+ years of use, and a new one is like $30-40 on bricklink just for the one cord. FxBricks seems to be developing one last I saw but I don't think it'll be out until sometime next year.

You can't exactly make something like the Eiffel Tower without it being repetitive, though you have a point on the size.

While I don't agree with some things you say about the Eiffel Tower, I do agree that a lot of the Lego sets this year feel kind of off in a way. Eiffel Tower I can see being a big selling point since it's a national monument and a symbol of architecture, that's just me, but I can't possibly imagine shelling out that money for a Hulkbuster or a big Black Panther bust.

Why would I want to drop a few hundred on a giant Iron Man or the head of Black Panther? I'd much rather save my money for something that's not an inflated Marvel product.
And the Football (foosball?) Table should have just been kept like a regular retro foosball table. No diverse minifigures, just red and yellow brick-built players mounted on poles. I found it so weird they would use a foosball table to promote diversity when all it should have been was a foosball table you'd see in an arcade or something.

Lego is always going to have licensed sets, that's a given. But you're right, they should try and cut away from franchises and make their own unique stuff.

If you're not that concerned with 'purity', you can try to repair the rotten cable. There are several threads about that on eurobrick. Both for 9V and 12V. Tbh any wire could do (even something similar to phone charger cable) as long as you maintain correct connections - red to the red etc. lol
When it comes to the flex track bit, on trixbrix website there are multiple custom lengths of straight track - standard, 2x standard, as well as half length and as low as 1 and 2 studs length equivalents. I bet they could have something along these lines that could fit your setup.

I'm a huge fiend for foliage pieces but if I was to choose I'd much prefer seeing more preexisting pieces in foliage colors like green/d. green, lime, olive, and tan/d. tan instead of more specialized pieces. I actually think the green coral is pretty strong here. It makes the tree look more complicated and old. The pink frogs for cherry blossoms on the bonsai tree was also clever. I think there's enough creative opportunity in the current piece library, we just need more colors to take it to the limit.

I love my original 2000 A-Wing and wouldn't trade it for any of the newer ones. It's not trying to look 100% accurate, it's just a simple brick-built spaceship. It reminds me of other spaceships that used to build as a kid. Also - there are no stickers in this set, only prints.

Yeah, this one is pretty great. Also very old-school, list like the A-Wing.
In addition to not being white, it is the only X-Wing that doesn't use stickers or rubber bands, which automatically makes it the best one, for me.

New to Lego and have a question about creating your own projects. When you guys want to start a custom project, do you just plan it all out before you build and then make one big order on bricklink or do you all just have enough loose random Lego on hand to actually make w/e you want? Or do you just do your best then order the rest? Was that all just accumulated over time or did you get some kind of bulk deal. I was fortunate and my parents kept my childhood Lego tub. A lot of my pieces I've acquired since then are from garage sales. If you live in a high-population area you might be able to find a group of other adult lego nerds in your city called a LUG (Lego User Group) that gets special bulk pricing deals on pieces direct from Lego at the cost of becoming a member of the LUG and making regular appearances at meetings and conventions.

If you're entertaining a per-pound rate jist go to facebook marketplace and buy bulk bins there. That's what all the per-pound people do so,you can jist get the same thing and cut out their margin. Locally people generally try to sell lego for around $7-10/lb whereas my target is closer to $1. The absolute most important thing when stalking facebook marketplace for a deal is pateince. You're looking for someone who is selling based on convenience and reclaimed space rather than money - like a mom with a son who moved to college and left his entire star wars collection. Facebook is extremely powerful because it is full of that "turbomom" demographic you can get deep-bake deals with. Be polite, never offer asking, say you're right around the corner, and be on time, and you might run away with 50lbs of lego for just as many dollars. Do not just fall for every half-appealing deal you find though, because there will be a lot. Only deep-fried deals anon.

This is my build so far, I'm about halfway. Its been an enjoyable build experience with some cool techniques for the doors especially so far. Once I've finished it I'm going to buy a light & sound set and modify it with that
The Delorean looks good too and I like it comes with minifigs, kinda wish this Ecto one did but I understand why as their OG cameo was kept until the end of the newer film

Start off by making individual items, then a room, then another room. Read up on advanced connection techniques so you're not just limited to stacking pieces on top of other pieces.

They started with not including the b model instructions, then they ran limited numbers of sets without them altogether. You don't have to be a "leaker" to see what's coming.

Speaking of which, I remember buying the 42050 specifically for the b model when it first came out and the instructions pdf wasn't available for at least a month or so. Made me angry, to say the least.
