I remember liking all of them except for Pridak. Mantax was a bit of a disaster too but he was solidly put together. I was still a big fan of all of them because of their uniqueness to each other, and unusual aesthetic.

Just completed my Nuva revamps, C&C welcome of course. I really like bulky builds so thats why i've used a lot of CCBS shells. P.S. Onua is here, hes got Pohatu on his shoulders.

I built something out of this general skeleton and it's a solid set. The knees are bad, and the head looks nothing like Takanuva, but it's a really interesting build. I'd love to see them come up with something else out of it. Having working gear functions is also really cool.

I'll take some proper photos later. Its subjective but I really like posable fingers, it reminds me of the Mask of Light movie models. Also subjective, but I dislike the Nuva kanohi for their huge size (they look cool though) as they limit articulation and throw off the proportions a bit

The first anon I corrected said "Maku and Hewkii". Maku's name was changed to Macku right when Huki's name was changed to Hewkii. Therefore, "Maku and Hewkii" makes no sense. And yes they were changed at exactly the same time:

I really like the Rau (Mask of Translation) funny enough. It's power is ok, but the actual shape of it is really cool in the Great and Hordika forms.

I hate matoro's color scheme, the foot neck, the stupid claw, the diminished arm, the use of tiny mata shoes, his fat thighs, and his stupid silver mask. I hate nuparu's color scheme even more, an all black clad tall fag except for the shiny shield and his stupid big head. The misuse of silver masks might be what throws me off the most, in a lineup that barely uses silver these two retards have it as an extreme accent. The tryna looks goofy but the volitak is unsalvageable and what's more it was used two more times, in two joke characters.

I hate Nuparu for his use of the Piraka limbs restricting his ankles and leaving gaping holes, but his colors aside from that are exactly like his Inika form, so that's not really something to bag on. I like the Volitak, sorry. However, I did mention once on here ages ago how I feel the Mahri are as a whole just a downgrade from the Inika. Both as a cohesive team, and just each individual build being slightly worse than their former iteration. I prefer the marbled and metallic colors, and I prefer the zamors over the cordaks. Idk why you explicitly hate just those two though. I feel like Hewkii with his short stature, black instead of gunmetal, and his missing hand, and Kongu trading silver for gray and turning into a fugly troll while foregoing a primary weapon are way more major offenses. Jaller and Hahli are neck and neck imo for boththeir forms, but again I just liked the Inika colors and launchers more.

To be fair, Legoland California sold bags of approximately 200 TNGMs each for $25 (or $20 if Legoland pass holder) many years ago. He may have bought them in bulk back then, he's not necessarily hoarding them now. Declining sales is expected for any Lego theme. 07 was already 6 years after Bionicle began; many of the original fans started to grow up and stopped buying Lego altogether, and bringing new fans (especially kids) into an existing franchise is very difficult. the problem with ccbs was single-use pieces. If the limbs had a bunch of connection points and the shells had a bunch of connection points, it would have been a blast. The decision to use single ball joints and DOUBLED PEGS is perhaps the single most retarded decision the lego executives have ever made. If they had just used, I don't know, axle holes, it would have been a million times better already. Could have still been half size if they wanted, even.

Fuck, I like cool techniques, but I also like to make figures that are playable and not just the LEGO equivalent of a Figma in terms of fragility.

I also like to be able to disassemble them without the parts being broken in the process.

At this point, this MOC is in the uncanny valley between embracing the limitations of LEGO (which includes "no destruction of parts via extremely illegal connections") and the complete anarchy of painting/cutting/glueing stuff and making a completely custom model that's just using LEGO as base material, with no intention of disassembly or part reuse.

Results of my dyeing experiment.

I did two rounds of dunking, one with half the dye, another with the entire bottle added. 5 mins more or less per part, per dunk, for a total of 10 mins per part.

The softer plastic of the foot took quite well to the dye but the hard plastic of the right piece didn't dye as evenly. The shade of green is different too, as you can see.

I literally just threw this experiment together in 5 minutes and didn't even wash the pieces before dunking them. I think with better temperature regulation and longer submersion they can turn out pretty good.

I've already designed a new set of the 6, including Tahu, and Takanuva. I've seen some pretty cool things like an Axonn in that TTV contest which is some decent inspiration, but beyond those and a Makuta type character, haven't made anything else yet.

Blog time. My purchase order in 2001 was Gali > Lewa > Kopaka > Tahu > Pohatu > Onua.
Noticeably the Wairuha combiner singlehandedly steered the course for next two purchases after Gali (who I initially thought was the coolest one, before Lewa became my favourite).
Also after the Wairuha half was complete, immediately after that it was Tahu. I don't think Kopaka would've been a choice for me over Tahu, had it not been for the combiner.
Then again my best friend had both Tahu and Pohatu for his first two, so I guess I also wanted to get different ones.
I don't think a kid would really think about the upside down pear body of Pohatu, which can be a con for an older person. Brown color is probably a bigger factor. It's weird that both the rock/desert Slizer and Roborider were primarily tan with dark grey accents. Roborider is even named 'Dust' which works well as a visual thematic.
I always loved Pohatu tho

Good taste. I'm actually just going through storage right now and resurrecting a few. Pohatu is the first to be resurrected. One foot is shorter than the other and I can't seem to find the tan piece that keeps his head in place. I plan on resurrecting them all and BL'ing the missing pieces.

so update on the giant lot I got. It had a ton of sets in it that were pretty much all the way built

also went through and sorted the loose pieces by color which was a lot. there were the masks I found. while I recognize a lot of these there are also a bunch I don't' recognize that might be hero factory, technic, or sets that I just never had growing up. anybody recognize the less famous of these sets? I know there is a piraka, mahri agori and I think a glatorian, but the rest I don't' recognize maybe due to some of theme being matorian sets

overall pretty good haul though. really happy I got a complete axon out of it too

It was unironically a formative moment for me. It made me want to get rid of my collection (a poor decision in retrospect) and try hard to "grow up". Made me not trust any big corporations. Was sad when I got the wave, knowing that they would be it. Somber, honestly.

I really wasn't following the story, and had no idea this was the last set until a bit later. I was excited that Tahu was back. I also never had a golden Hau growing up, so getting one here was a cool chance. When I found out it was over I was sad, but I was buying a lot of other stuff at the time as well. After getting the sets I was horribly disappointed though. These limbs were just not it. Idk if they were intended to have a pin or something in there to allow articulation like in the promo shots and the promo videos, but as they were they were trash.

Sure I wasn't paying too much attention to the state of things, I wasn't aware there were two waves of glatorian. Hell I didn't even know the phantoka were supposed to be the toa Mata. But the "ages 4+" sendoff with the generic rakhshi and piraka felt like it was in bad taste. And their replacement, Hero factory, absolutely lacked character and reason to exist, specially at the time when it was advertised as these generic goons that get built for whatever problem.

I can identify the HF for you at least. Looking like you've got a Corroder, Stormer 3.0, Ogrum, Drilldozer, Breez (Brain Attack), Mark Surge, Natalie Breez, Duncan Bulk, Jimi Stringer (may be breakout version, not sure), and some Preston Stormers.
Bionicle-wise there's a bunch of Agori and Glatorian helmets there, you should be eating well on good parts/sets.
