This would be fine if Lego actually released non-Creator stuff that was actually cool.
Alas, with Ninjagay, Potter, SoiWars and others completely dominating the market, Creator 3 in 1 was holding the line when it came to minifigure scale sets with imaginative unlicensed concepts.

I don't think people have yet fully realized the extent of the loss that this is.

Based monster fighters. Building my own version of the haunted house but in dark purple and putting it on a MILS plate. Ran out of the purple and need to order more. This one will be inhabited by a coven a sexy minifig witches.

Does anybody other than me, collect the magazines?
If you do, what do you think? Do you collect it just for the figure or do you read the comic too? I really enjoy them, sometimes they come with rare minifigures or minifigures that come in expensive sets for cheap, and I always find humor in the ridiculous weapons they give to the Ninjago minifigures that don't appear in the show.

Nexo Knights ran its course over 3 years. It isn't a flop by any means, compared to Bionicle G2, Hidden Side, Vidiyo and Dreamzzz, that is.

Is there any way to buy minifigure heads with the "standard grin" pattern, but in different colors than yellow, brown and flesh? I want them in all sorts of colors to use as alien compatriots of my classic spacemen-- green heads and red heads and blue heads-- but just the standard grin pattern. Did any of those aliexpress sellers who made the off-color dragons do this? Or is the only way to find decals and make them myself?

Also demake-anon-- I recieved the Creator 3-in-1 castle for Christmas from my brother and I'm planning to demake it similarly to your blacksmith image in the next month or two.

Was I in the only town where it sold well? G1 sold crazy well in my hometown's TRU and CCBS sets barely moved until G2 came back.
Sales only noticeably slowed at around 2016 when they made everything fucking ugly, still couldn't ever find Umarak when I had money though

Lego won't post the instructions until the set's official release, January first. Only way to get it early is for someone who got it to scan the instruction book, and I really don't see anyone bothering when Lego will be dropping them in a few days anyway.

One day I'll have nice things. Since I work at Walmart, I can look at our cost/margins on sets. The store usually makes 25-30% profit from each unit sold on Lego. I have a 10% discount, or once a month, staff get 20% on anything. Discounts don't work for clearance / events (eg Black Friday sales), but it does work on rollbacks.
Spent the last 4 months buying any set that went on second clearance. This could be anywhere between a -60% to -170% margin for the store. Realistically, it gives me about 2-4x margin to market value.
Having said that ebay and logistics are cancer, I sold a set for DOUBLE the price I paid (buyer paid market/retail, and shipping) and I made $4.85 after taxes, fees, and shipping. I think the more important thing is that the current market value is 3.7% above retail value, which implies a fairly decent rate of growth long term

I'm pretty sure the engineer series holds value pretty good, the previous eiffel tower sets had some pretty good % growth since their retirement. Not sure how well that will perform.
Kinda like the new Animal Crossing sets, they're cute I guess.

It's not just that lego should sell smaller ships that scale better with buildings/islands, they need to stop basing all their ship-designs on square-rigged brigs with a high aftercastle. Even the beloved skull's eye schooner wasn't even a schooner. I'd personally love some pirate ships inspired by other cultures/regions, like Barbary galleys, Mediterranean xebecs, Japanese sekibune. More designs like the destiny's bounty would be great.

I don't understand why so many people have a hard on for Imperial Flagship 10210. It's cool that it was the first time Lego bothered to put out a proper multi-deck ship, but it just looks like a big brown slab with mediocre detailing.

My childhood favorite is the SES but I think the best pirate ship Lego's put out when you factor in the price is the creator 3-in-1 ship, before the price hike when it only costed $100. Even setting aside the two solid alt-builds, the ship has a spacious captain's quarter, detailed forecastle and aftercastle, and it even teaches you how to do a good brick-built hull so that you can easily make the ship bigger if you have enough spare bricks.

It's a real shame that it came out around the time of the barracuda bay, and it kept getting unfair comparisons.

I almost always pick up the Jurassic World and Ninjago Magazines for my kid. I sometimes skip the JW one if it doesn't have a dinosaur. I'm 2 for 2 on Dreamzzz and I've picked up the most recent Minecraft one that came with Alex, a Bee and a Llama, but that's the only time I've got a Minecraft one (seemed like a cool lil collection though)

Overall the Magazines are kinda great. I usually read the comic to my kid and let her do the colouring stuff in them before tossing them

I added a radiator array to the base (black tower behind the dome). The extremely tall tower is for gathering scientific data. Got the new space mech today (theme not creator). The arms have worse range than I thought but it has some nice pieces. I'm still skeptical about the new orange. Color palette is still mindbogglingly boring. I'm not sure why they went so extremely safe with this.

I have wondered this too and I think the idea is that if the manchild consoomer afols want a set they will buy it right away, regardless of when it comes out. This is why one of the options in the Brickset polls is "Day 1 buy". The new sets come out January 1st but they will still be out in December 2024 for normies to buy for Christmas presents for other normies. By NOT releasing the new sets before Christmas, Lego gets the normal spike in sales for Christmas, then another spike in sales from the Lego fans that have to have the newest Star Shit set the day it hits shelves. However, they released the new Modular building December 1st this year, so maybe they are rethinking their strategy.

Could have a mix of brickbuilt and minifig cryptids, depending on what you're dealing with.

If you want to win auctions on ebay for lego you have to be comfortable on setting a high max bid. You also never want to bid on auctions that end on the weekends, the auction that anon listed ends on Saturday and will probably hit $200+. There are a lot of people with stupid money that will overpay for lego on weekends that will pay over buy now for that.

If your wanting to get a good deal on a retro set on ebay, the best way to do it is to pay attention to estate sellers or various goodwill auctions. Goodwill doesn't give a fuck and just sets the auction to end on a workday and often times sell it as is without checking. There's some good deals to be had. Same with estate sellers, but if an estate seller comes upon a good stash they'll often times flood the market which allows good deals to slip through the cracks. Toy Shops and lego enthusiasts are the worst to buy from because they're trying to squeeze every penny.

I did a double take and had to check the release dates again when I hit my own Target location last week and saw these.

I know that it’s going to be impossible to please everyone with any modern Space themes in LEGO, and for valid reasons, but be honest with yourself, this is the most effort we’ve seen them put into something for space theme fans since Galaxy Squad. The Galaxy Explorer is great but this actually required some genuine effort beyond remaking an old design, this is a genuine attempt at an homage to classic space and I think it’s based, I’d like to see it with its own theme not tied to City and with some variation from more realistic designs but until then I’m more than happy with these.

Pic related, this ship is pure kino, peak modern LEGO design. I’ll always prefer the classic stuff in the end but I can appreciate a slick ass model when I see one.

The engine feature is mint, it’s such a simple function but it feels so good, it’s about as old school as it gets, I have the three smallest sets so the smaller rover as well and that is also very nice simple suspension functionality that works very well, they honestly knocked it out of the park with the play functions of these sets.

I don’t hate them to be honest, the head prints could be better but the design by itself isn’t god awful, it reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes’ style of alien creatures, seems easy to fix with some light modifications if you don’t like them as is.

Why the FUCK Lego spent millions on Dreamzzz research, all they had to do was to call me, maxiumum few cents per minute.

I would give them a theme they wouldnt even need to make cartoon of. Lego Fantasy Castle, as fantasy genre is at its peak rn.

Human faction + Ork enemies for the first wave. Both get 6 sets each + 2 polybags for army building. You can combine those sets, Harry Potter style, to make one big Ork camp and a Castle with few farm houses. No new moulds needed, you got everything you need already you retards.

Wish they had done battle droids of any sort, but it was in the shitty phase where Disney and Lego seemed allergic to anything prequel related.

Most of the sets in the new Space "theme" are good, but the color pallete was a huge miss for me.
Yes, the new fighter is amazing, but I shouldn't want to rebuild it in different colors to enjoy it more. Imagine it being released in M:Tron or Blacktron 1/2 or IP 2002 colors instead of what they put out.
And yes, a colorful canopy that pops and stands out visually makes a huge difference.

the good thing about small ones like these is that it's pretty easy to take apart to do the other builds. With big ones like the pirate ship it can feel like too much of a sacrifice rebuilding.

Just had a brilliant thought occur to me that I'm surprised Lego hasn't done yet. With all the focus on gender equality(shoehorning women everywhere), in this type of sets with only 1 figure instead of having a face with 2 different expressions why not have a face where 1 side is male and the other female? So whether you're a boy or a girl you won't feel alienated and can relate better to the figure by choosing their gender. That shuttle and this submarine come to mind(which are sets that seem way more likely to be gifted to boys) and I can't help but feel like lots of kids will be disappointed the one figure they are getting is a woman.

Hell as I'm typing this I'm realizing this concept can even be applied to sets with multiple figures. Sure have some characters that are specifically women or men(especially if they call for gender specific torsos/hair) but if there's opportunity for characters that can be easily male or female just give people the choice. Many fans would be less mad about the lion's castle if you could just flip the head of some of the knights to be male. Chuds win and feminists win. Everybody would be happier.

This would get endlessly memed as le tranny figures the west has fallen but I think it would genuinely be a cool way to go about it. If they really want to appeal to all audiences possible, this would be the best choice (after including an extra different gender head for each figure which they would absolutely never do due to cost).

Local place got their shipment of CMF 25 cases, so I picked up a few Batlords and Goats. The cape on the new Basil looks really good, and it's a really nice feeling thick cloth. Everything about him is exactly as I wanted it to be, though I feel the axe is a strange choice considering he used a sword or that rod with a bat on it in the original Fright Knights line

Some people found out, and I verified, that if the batch the store got has QR codes (some got dot matrix instead), you can use your phone to find out what's inside based on the last 2 digits of the first number when your phone detects it. For Basil it's 70. I got 4 of him using this method, and passed one along to a friend.

It's just my phone's default camera that detects the QRs. It's a Note 9, but I assume most phone cameras can detect QRs now. Though getting it to detect these can be a bit finnicky at times, because they aren't printed the clearest.

I figure I should also mention the cases might be mappable, as two cases were opened in front of me to be stocked, and for those, the back right 3 boxes on the top layer were all QR 70. I got 2 from one and 1 from the other, and they were all Basil. The bottom right middle three on both was QR 62, I got 2 from both cases, and I just cracked another box...it's a goat.

The sets wouldn't be out if the store wasn't small enough that their 8 shelf lego section ran dry for Christmas. They ran a 25% off toys sale, that's still going, and had to put something out to fill the holes. I managed to get these and Egalt with the 25% off because of that coincidence. Sadly that runs into it's own issue with scalpers and potentially lego itself if they short the most popular minis in a case vs the less popular minis.
Theres really no exact foolproof method.

It might not be all new info, but I at least wanted to prove what's out there is correct as far as people have stated. Trust but verify, because some things can be coincidence after all. I at least have the numbers to show the goats and Basils aren't coincidence though. The case positions of the sets of 3 could be utter coincidence though, and I admit a sample size of 3 cases sent to one location isn't big enough to confirm anything.

I got more today, another goat dude and another weightlifter using the codes. I think they are very reliable, it's just that the cases I saw had dot matrix for the mushroom sprite,triceratops, runner, detective, and dog groomer, so those ones I can't personally verify.

I checked the dot matrixes again for several boxes, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern at all. Every digit can be different from the last, but seeing as I never heard anything about QRs on Marvel stuff, I think they may be making a transition to QRs just to give some shot at figuring out what's in the box.

So, maybe some boxes vary as to what has QRs depending on when they were in production. I didn't think to look to see the production codes on the bottom to see which was made later. Perhaps some cases are all Dot or some are all QR, or just a different mix of the two.
