I prefer the Bay designs for the autobots.
Sideswipe and Ironhide for example are designed to evoke the skills they have so they have a bit more of a cool factor to them. Sideswipe is silver and sharp, even in vehicle mode, so it's like he's all about cutting; Ironhide is bulky and gun colored with huge guns so it's like he's a huge gun with a body to fire it.
It's like caricatures, except that it's done for coolness' sake.
Bumblebee movie designs are just robots in muted toy colors carrying guns. Brawn is the best design to come out of it so far IMO because it still looks like an angry manlet that can be punted around Cybertron by a titan and walk it off, but the rest are just that, a robot guy with a gun and a G1-inspired head.

They're interesting but the lack of color on most of them make them look boring to look at and hard to identify during action scenes, the swerve and blue "nascar" repaints were my favorite movie Sideswipe toys, same for Jazz with his g1 repaint.

Yeah, the colors is an issue, one that is only somewhat excused with the two examples I gave but not so much with the rest. The decepticons are the biggest offenders of this since they use military vehicles except for the constructicons where they went out of their way to make them look dull and gray despite being painted in bright colors.
Not as bad as the dinobots, though. Holy... Those were bad. I was so disappointed when it was confirmed that that lost fanmade Grimlock concept found online months before the movie got debunked and we were stuck with their Grimlock.

NTA but I always found the BBM designs boring outside of Shatter and Dropkick. They're all just too similar to their G1 designs but with "realistic" detailings, it's extremely boring.
If I want G1 figures, I'll get G1 figures (and I do). If I want cybertronian figures, I'll get WfC/FoC figures (I moslty don't because well, you know how that line's going). And if I want "realistic" figures, I'm gonna want something from the Bay movies because on top of that, they also all have totally unique and alien interpretations of the designs. It's a shame that my favorite designs are from the first two films though, cuz while RotF is mostly fine in SS, god damn 2007 needs new remakes (or at least tweaked/revised molds) for basically everyone. How the best film in the series somehow lands the worst figures out of its contemporaries, I'll never know.

It really is a shame. They dropped the ball hard on Megatron, and Blackout is so close to being good but has the shitty hands (Grindor fixed those admittedly and there are upgrades).
I have Brawl though and lack of ankles aside, he's good.

Both Blackout n Grindor also have the "standing on top of printed parts" deal, on top of not having the rotor weapon, both of which were fixed quite cleverly in the MPM Blackout.
I also heard Bonecrusher's new MPM was engineered in such a way to finally give his feet stability, supposedly, so I'd be really into it if those sortsa small tweaks were reintroduced into the SS versions.

These are good, but I highly doubt they'd do proper TFs in the form of the Spy Changers. How about instead, a round of effect parts. Probably can't get all of it, but general blaster effects, some that could go on the sirens, lightning for their handshake, etc.

we got Micromasters for Dez and Saber, they could retool some micromaster spychangers. Ideally I'd like to see core class Spy Changers in the future, but they might be too niche even with G2 Go-Bot repaints.

Almost, everything. That figure had plenty of issues:

-The face
-Not molding the orange parts orange
-Not molding the spoiler yellow
-The split on the chest that looks awful
-Proper packing so that the chest doesn't end up scuffed
-The back of the legs having clearance issues that force you to flex the plastic since they ran a pin through it and it got in the way of the wheels
-The massive hole on the windshield that exists to peg in the backpack, and this is really tight so you risk damaging the windshield when transforming it. There Had to be a better way to do this.
-The backpack being misaligned on most copies, meaning that you will start scuffing the paint on the windshield when going to robot mode.

Those are issues created by the car altmode, the original toy didn't had to deal with rear car parts inside the trailer.

He needs almost MP level engineering to pull that off without making the windshield too small. Some extra joint to stretch out the torso a bit could have helped, and the windshield needing a joints to more around so much didn't help. Assuming the windshield only needed to flip up with a hinge at the top, you could have the bottom half fold into itself, then have those bits attached to a post that would swing inward and store inside the space for the head. But yeah, a ton of G1 figures don't really work if they have to stick closely to a price point. Would anyone buy an improved wheeljack with better chest and proportions at voyayer price point?

The Optimus mold was good, not just my thing, but the Star Convoy remold was legit. This mold had a great concept, cartoon Rodimus's trailer always vanished into nothing and his conversion was an important moment of the movie, but they fucked it up.

NTA but it's possible to like the general idea behind a design whilst also finding the precise execution in need of improvement. I like Wheeljack's overall design but find the toon model a touch bland, which is why I like the MP and the ER mold which has the rally decals and a slightly more detailed sculpt.

Well, G1 toy colors hasn't been released, not sure how Hasbro runs shit nowadays but I'd like to think that despite the "cancellation" of him in the Velocitron line, he'll make his way into some Gen Select slot at some point, no? Bros. My parents are digging bins out of their house and I found my original release Big Convoy that I begged my parents to buy when I first saw pics of him online. This plastic almost looks like it has metallic flecks in it so I imagine this is probably GPS and it is the original release. I have seen even incomplete versions of this guy going for like 100 bucks.

I don’t want the American version because it suffers from extreme mold degradation. How do I know this? I have the Nemesis Prime version and it comes with unpinned pieces and like nothing fits together good. It looks cool but barely stands compared to this original version. It’s actually pathetic.

Anyways, what should I be looking for? Beast Wars Neo lots? I don’t want to pay like 100 bucks and not get a new figure out of it. Which I probably could/should do at this point, but I’m kinda waiting to see is Hasbro does one for Legacy. Thanks in advance.

Energon Omega Supreme is from the most hated transformers series and an overall just kind of ugly design, Omega Prime holds nowhere the same cult status as Star Saber or Deathsaurus and could easily be done at retail, animated Omega Supreme should just be a Titan release and Primus is way, way too big and no where near as popular as unicron to sell enough to get made. Hasbro’ would have a hard time getting any of these figures to sell well

Though it should be noted that Energon's scheduling problem wasn't just for that show. Armada had a similar fucking over done to it by Cartoon Network (they aired the show weekly until the start of the the Unicron Battles and then dumped the show at 5:30 AM in the morning for the last 12-13 episodes.

And neither show was rerunned, so you were shit out of luck if you didn't religiously follow their respective fucked up schedules. To the point that most people didn't watch the show from beginning to end until Hasbro put both out on DVD in the late 00s.

I never got this sense when watching the fansub, could probably be the fault of the dub mainly, but i will concede that the overarching narrative was indeed a big part of it, which must've been a pain for TV back in the day.

I never really got why people were so mad at this. Starscream and Demolishor had FULL completed character arcs when they died, and both Sandstorm and Tidal Wave were just cartoon goons. Yeah it was fucked up to watch their characters get reborn and mangled with lesser personalities and lacking memories, but, that was the whole point: it was to demonstrate how much of a crazy monster this Galvatron was. Yes, I do wish the revived Decepticons had their new characters explored further, but the studio were clearly holding that off for the third show I guess... which they never got to do themselves. Sadly.

Going back to ER Wheeljack, I can think of several ways to improve the windshield without shrinking jt, but the biggest bottleneck is the transformation itself. Having to reposition the whole windshield for transformation just messes things up. You pretty much need the torso to transform while leaving the windshield in place or make an ugly backpack and use a fake chest windshield.

I'm kind of screwed. I don't own all of them, but I do own some recolor, the only must haves for me are Jazz, Trailbteaker and Hound. I already have Detritus and G2 Jazz so it's mostly just for Traibreaker and a Jazz that won't break.

The toy itself is also a fiddly mess, nothing tabs in well, the thigh swivels didn't lock in well so the legs just fall off, the attachment for the rocket launcher is nearly useles, getting it to stand properly is a chore and it's missing a gun. Ravage is the only good thing about it.

As nice as rubber tires feel, they unfortunately deteriorate much faster than plastic and are good at picking up whatever tiny bits of dirt and debris are on the surface you roll them on. Plastic tires last much longer and will roll just as well.

Mm, I'm not really seeing it; for Blades, his landing gear form the arms and the tail rotor becomes the legs, while the orbular Buzz Lightyear-esque cockpit is a core part of his body's design. Plus well, he only has two "blades" I believe, lel. This guy doesn't have too much in common besides being a helicopter, it doesn't seem to me.

I definitely would prefer something more fitting, but there's really not much choice atm for helibots. And also I'm just assuming with an extensive enough retool to remove all the rocky bits they'd go a bit further with it and maybe potentially change some things around, would be pretty easy to change the blades for example when altering all the surface detailing. I admit I'm kinda just grasping at straws here. I could also see this making for a cool "grown up" RBA whirl

How so do you mean? But anyways yeah, I dunno, just that seeing how well they did Chase makes me really antsy to see the rest of the Rescue Bots done just as faithfully, lmao. Ahh... out of all the post-2007 cartoons to be allowed faithful adaptations, of course Rescue Bots was the one that won the raffle lol.

I mean there's only this and Spinister rn for current generations helicopter molds, and this definitely fits Blades better than spinister would(honestly it fits most helicopter bots better, the whole double-cockpit legs thing is a very character-specific detail). Chase turned out really well, but he's pretty obviously a pretool that just happened to work out really well for him, so I'm guessing any future RBs are gonna be retools or pretools as well. I'd love to have more unique heli molds tho, helicopters are great. They're the kind of contraption where if you tried to describe them to someone who's never seen one before they'd think you're trying to fuck with them

Who do you think he's gonna be a pretool for? From my POV the mold seems pretty specifically catered to him, just that he's a muscle car and a lot of other transformers also happen to be muscle cars.

yeah basically this >>10852716 a few very specific details line up perfectly with Cliffy. Although it works so well for Chase I'd accept he's actually the original use and Cliffjumper is more of a "baked in" retool rather than a pretool.

Yeah like the only specific thing I can label as being Prime Cliffjumper-specific is the teeny exhaust pipes on the sides iirc, but with the way he transforms and how its all shaped then yeah it feels Chase was the main priority. I wanted to initially argue "naw it's too much of a stretch", but literally then forgot how all the Prime Legacy figures are loose interpretations anyway, so in that sense then yeah I can visualize it for sure.

Managed to get Combiner Hunters Windblade for pretty cheap. Honestly? Not a bad toy. Standing her can be a little tricky and the transformation is a touch on the fiddly side, but she looks pretty alright in both modes, she poses well and the deco is gorgeous.

Siege Shockwave, probably. Overpriced and he comes with a bunch of dumb armor you don't need or want, but the core robot is a good Shockwave. Previously I only had FoC Shockwave, who was good at the time.
