to the anon a couple threads ago who suggested JB Weld for plastics, thank YOU. I am realy surprised this actually worked. Its ugly as hell but it is staying together enough to run around the track and pull two empty car bases. And the expoxy hasn't even fully cured yet. One of the pins that the coupling holds onto snapped off, and the pins that hold the wheels in place are gone, but it works. Thanks again for the suggestion.

For every entry in this book, after the description of the set, there is a bunch of fictional space lore puked out by the book's creators, or possibly AI. At first I thought it was sort of whimsical and slightly entertaining, but after the writer started referring to some of the classic spacemen as females I started ignoring it. Its a big waste of space in an otherwise great book. But I imagine the reddit normies love this kind of gay writing.

Is it worth buying the overpriced Bricklink sets purely out of FOMO? I have no reason to drop $380 on the Mountain Fortress Castle over something like Rivendell other than the gimmick of exclusivity.

I wouldn’t worry about it, especially if you’re not all that taken with the set.
I have a feeling the Bricklink sets won’t be all that collectible in the future BECAUSE of their scarcity, after all how can you be nostalgic for something you never knew existed?
As much as I love Castle I was going to pass on this one because of the meh interiors, lack of play features, and paltry number of minifigs.
If you really like the look of the castle though or you’re really into the Black Falcons then go for it.

I'm excited for the upcoming Bricklink sets. Everyone is talking about that ugly and boring on the inside Falcon Castle, but I've 0vr4s8yet to see anyone mention this cute beauty.

Lots of fun mini builds inside of different cooking appliances. The structure of the Airstream trailer is great and the back and front open up for easy access. There is lots of charm in this set, and the designer has said there are fun hidden details in the build he's kept secret.

It's the cheapest of all the sets and has lots of charm. It also looks pretty good in isolation, but can be fit in to lots of different displays.

"Cryptid Hunters" would make a great theme, and it'd be simple to do. Brick-built monsters, a couple minifigs with cameras and a bit of scenery. And really, kids love monsters, so it's a low-risk theme.

I'll never understand this retarded take! The small pieces are the easiest to reuse. I couldn't even find a use for the big wedges in the Exotic Peacock set. In fact I tried making this a Tie Fighter sort-of ship just to use 4/8 of them but it didn't look very good. Let alone castle walls and BURPs

No, it's too big. And the lack of detail makes it look even larger and plain. Older sets lack the level of detailing in the newer sets but they were also way smaller so a roof that was just a plate didn't look odd. A roof that has more area than any old set would have in its baseplate but is still just a simple uniformly colored plate looks just lazy and uninteresting.

Thanks for the compliments, anon. I too kind of prefer the windshield-less look. But functionally, I think it makes more sense for a battle mech to have as much protection for the pilot as possible. Also, I still have the sword, but I'm not really sold on it because the mech is designed as a bruiser/gunner. I may end up making a Ninja-esque Blacktron mech that can use the sword.

I always sort of imagined that the Falcons valued martial prowess above all else whereas the Lions were more about promoting chivalry.
Interestingly I think the Falcons’ commitment to discipline has allowed them to build a more just, livable society than the Lions.
Nothing breeds corruption like idealism after all, and idealism is what defines the whole Lion Knight ethos.
I think canon for the most recent sets is that the Falcons swear fealty to the Lion king (queen?), so hopefully they can help steer the Lions in the right direction.

I'm all for praising old sets and I agree that Lego has gone downhill but it makes no sense to directly compare prices.

If you do the math for inflation, a lego set valued at $85 in 1992 would be valued around the $200 ballpark today

The castle itself, like most Lego castles, is relatively ugly (and this is one of the least ugly of the old castles) and very expensive ($185 in today’s money) for the time. The real Chad castle move was getting a few small sets for the minis and building your own castles out of bricks.
The sea serpent is a better set from the same time that looks decently good, has a good few minifigs and today’s money cost is about $37, which is still a bit of money, but better than that castle. The true jewels were sets like 6105, 4 minifigs and accessories for $7 at the time, $15 equivalent today, along with those single minifig sets in poly bags with maybe a catapult, for even less money, things a kid could get more easily with an allowance. That’s what modern Lego is missing, small to medium sets that give a few minifigs for you to make your own stories with after making houses and castles out of your own bricks. This is the 90s equivalent of the lion knight castle, which is overpriced but at least actually looks cool. Nostalgifags are right in core instinct that things used to be better but so often wrong in specifics of which sets make that era better.
The big castles were always overpriced and for rich kids

They look good on a shelf but Lego is a toy. They are too flimsy and easy to damage to be regularly handled and built on. It's not uncommon for them to have holes from studs that got ripped out or at least dents and cracks.

It's decent. I really liked the message of the movie. It used Lego as a concept to form its narrative was rally creative. Besides that, the characters were kind of generic, some jokes hit while others fell flat on their face.

Do you know what a dust collector set actually is? It’s not an opening playset with lots of minis and play features, it’s not a set from before Lego made dust collectors, and it certainly isn’t a random guy’s mocs

Yeah, I think it's the weakest wave in a while. Usually blow my wad and grab most of the wave, but so far I've only sprung for Megapolis (which is pretty damn gr8).
Monkey Mech is tempting me because I passed on the huge ones, but it'll need a total redesign of the arms and legs to become decent. Hopefully the summer wave is a return to form.

If a license persists long enough you're bound to get repeats due to re-releases. Most of the time "thing from the show but Lego" is exactly what people want. They just want to build it, play with and maybe make it their own through customization. I'd say themes like Ideas where it's "a model of that thing in real life but made of LEGO and with studs all over it" are even less creative. Oh, cool, a set of a tree but it comes with photo clips so you can hang your pictures on it.

Honestly, Mei's mech is the most disappointing for me. I could probably fix it to my liking, but the MK sets are usually damn near perfect. I'm just glad I already have a mech MOC for Mei that looks a lot better than what Lego gave us. Otherwise, I probably would have bought it and wasted my money.

Because the licenses make sets more expensive, distract from original themes, and increase the extent to which Lego is less a toy brand and more a pop culture ornament brand like funkopops.
The worst og themes like Dreamzzz are just Lego trying to make their own franchises.
I get why Lego uses licenses so much from a business perspective but it’s bad for quality overall and takes away from the more generic themes which Lego is best at expressing and were my favourites even as a kid. I’ll say that despite it getting dunked on the most here, Star Wars always seems to consistently have a good number of cool looking sets, unlike marvel or Disney proper. Probably because even the bad Star Wars movies have decent designs for vehicles and the Lucas movies all have really cool visual design

Castlefags, why do you like Castle anyway?
The only Castle theme I thought was interesting was the Fantasy era because of the fantasy races, I'm a bit of a medieval fantasy fan but never bought the sets. Are you more a fan of realistic, grounded Castle? Or fantastical Castle?

People complain about current sets like the downgrade is in the big sets but big sets have always been really expensive for their times, and these ones do have cooler designs than the old big sets, we're lacking the small and medium sets, but they probably aren't as profitable and kids buy fewer toys anyway nowadays, so they'll just stick with the big sets

I like medieval aesthetics, clearly its a good place for adventures given the popularity of LotR, GoT, DnD etc. I actually prefer the more mundane side of it because it feels more rich and real, like how the 80s castle sets had just people towing wagons and the current sets have lots of peasants

LKC was clearly Lego going for as platonically “castle” a castle as possible with enough variety and detail to make it fun
MTF has that kind of little bit more difference that makes it seem even more generic and boring, it’s also lacking the different factions of the LKC and while the interiors of the LOC are small, they are varied and colourful, most of this ones interiors look like generic blank castle rooms.
LKC feels like a distillation of castleness, MTF feels like one of the copypasted castles from Elden

This is part of my enjoyment as well, Lego castle, especially 80s and current, isn't cringe mudcore like nearly all medieval movies made in the last 50 years, the peasants are clean and the knights wear bright tabards.

Mos Eisley is still on shelves right now. The only reason I recommend that is the last Master Builder Series (2018 Cloud City) is going for over 1000 right now. But either that or Ninjago City sets.

Cloud City is a lot more desirable of a location than Mos Eisley. They’ve also only made 1 other cloud city and it’s rare as shit too and a long time ago. They’ve made several playset Mos Eisleys over the years. Cloud City is also the only way to get Lando in his iconic outfit, him alone is worth quite a bit.

No, this is from the LEGO-animated Jurassic World spinoff "Legend of Isla Nublar." Dennis Nedry's evil nephew builds a dinosaur mech to uncover a treasure hidden on the island, or some stupid shit like that. It's the kind of plot that could only exist in LEGO, because it sure as hell doesn't make any sense even in the framwork of the stupid JW universe. There's no buried treasure on Earth that could even hope to cover the costs needed to build,maintain, and transport a 50-foot-long bipedal walking tank designed to look like a theropod.

It kind of annoyed me, because I liked the mech, but I hated having to pay extra for the tax that's baked into the price of licensed sets (the inclusion of BURPs and the T. rex figure didn't help either). Particularly since it's not something that ever happens in the movies and which you KNOW isn't really canon to them, even with an accompanying cartoon. It could have been its own original set without any of that bullshit, but you ended up having to pay more just for the Jurassic World logo stamped on the box.

I always thought it would have been more fun in the T-Rex mech was something more akin to Pacific Rim. Like after the dinosaurs got loose and were running wild across the world, they started building robot dinosaurs to deal with them.

That's actually somewhat accurate. Male carpenters and blacksmiths would train their wives in a working knowledge of the craft lest they died without heirs or apprentices to carry on the trade. Widow carpenters and blacksmiths did exist, and if part of a guild had to mark their work with a special mark warning that it was made by a woman for buyers with a prejudice. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction and Lego may or may not be exploiting that in this case.

Usually, widow blacksmiths forged small things such as nails, knives, hammers, awls, gimlets, and other little tools. It would have been a peasant who would have been mocked for carrying a knife or other small tool that a woman had forged. It would have been likewise with the woodwork a widow carpenter produced. These were small projects/items that were usually used as everyday items and would have been used by the lower ranks of society. Male apprentices made the same items, although those bore the maker's mark of the normally male apprentice.
