What's the reasonable way to get recasts/knockoffs of specific parts from old sets? Wanted to try buying individual parts for the outer wilds idea that got declined, turns out it'd be $400, mostly due to some niche parts that got printed like once ever. Example attached.

I was thinking when I saw this in the store recently that if it wasn't in the retarded minecraft style I'd buy it immediately. I still maintain lego minecraft would be better if it didnt have all the specialized pieces and was normal minifigures and lego style mobs, but I know nobody agrees. I feel that pinch on the one-off parts, would like to have some of https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=2409 in trans-green for my (planned) underwater mining op headquarters base but the only ones in Canada are from that very store and it's over 120 maplebucks for 2. Will have to source them elsewhere but I might not even bother.

that's the fucking point. if it's not interactable it shouldnt be fucking lego

what gives lego an edge as a medium is the playability and on the spot customization. you're sure as fuck not customizing the starry night and you're not gonna use the pieces to make another painting, it's just some bullshit you put on a shelf. you can say it's very impressive how the designers had to bend over backwards to make lego look sorta kinda maybe look similar to the painting but that's all there is to it, it's just an exercise in futility

They have some parts that don't have pixel printing which is cool, and the skeletons are largely just skeletons except for the head so that's cool too. The builds are just too blocky even if you go all the way back to somehing like the horses in the yellow castle, and again the pixel prints. They're not even on a consistent grid, so they don't do their original purpose well anyway. It just all looks ugly.
The sets are great for basic bricks though.

I would have as a child because I loved lego and Van Gogh was the first artist whose work I loved, the starry night was my favourite painting, it's still up there. Because its just imitating one of the most famous paintings in history, it's not an actual playset, you can't do anything with it, just build it and look at it, and it looks better than other display sets that are some vehicle from a pop culture movie or something, but it doesn't look as good as the original painting, just like the Millenium falcon UCS doesn't look as good as the ship does in the movies. This looks better than the UCS MF because it's based on a beautiful painting, not just a cool thing from a movie, it's still inferior to the original and doesn't do what lego is meant to do, lego is a toy to be played with

The important thing is it looks different than the painting and will impress any Lego fan with its sophisticated builds. I don't really like Van Gogh or impressionism (not the music, that's great). If I were to do what anon suggested, I would put up this, not some meme painting everyone knows. The whole point is that it's a 3 dimensional diorama, as opposed to a flat object. The fact you think /lg/ isn't an exception to the general behavior of /toy/ then I don't know what to tell you. Lego is a medium for creative expression. I haven't played with an MOC or model since I was 12. I don't want to play, I want to model. If you want to play then have fun, that's on you. I am happy with my purchase. Simple as.

The thing is I don't care if it's viewed as childish when I know it in fact isn't. It might be adolescent at worst. Don't try gatekeeping me, faggolio! Scale models are rigid and expect you to build the piece of crap on the box. Meanwhile sculpture takes a steady hand and graceful movement. Lego is a perfect creative medium for me. I excel at the digital arts like music and Lego.

Somehow you are right but this is only in very niche cases. A guy on /ic/ showed me a sculpture that I thought looked like gaudy postmodern crap but I said as a non-visual artist I would defer to him. Meanwhile he had no appreciation for Rautavaara (iirc), much less Schoenberg. Artists kind of have to stay in their lane at times before passing judgment. But I don't see this Lego set as being anything but explicitly pleasant, unlike the "Modern Art" set that just looks like a bunch of cheap garbage pieces stuck together.

As for any of the music I currently have available to show, it's pointless posting it here. I had some more accessible stuff on Aud.io but that site is defunct.

It’s not the same, creative expression is greater when an artist has greater control of their medium and makes more meaningful decisions to produce the art, which you would have more of from foam, card, glue and paint. Unicycling is harder than making models, but it’s not really creative expression.

What is the best undersea theme?
Aqua raiders is the only ocean theme I had sets from as a child, and some friends of mine had Atlantis sets. I like the brickbuilt monsters, especially this anglerfish but feel like the Atlantis mini figures and human sub builds were probably better. Though the generic undersea sets look probably the comfiest

Hated them as a kid because I was a fat retard and could never place them properly. Now I don't mind them as much, especially if it means the set is cheaper than if it had prints instead. No, a theme usually gets 2 waves per year. A wave is usually made of around 4-6 sets. It depends on theme, city and friends get the most sets because they are the more popular themes, star wars too. Marvel and DC are still under the superheroes brand, same designer team, marvel gets more sets per wave and dc one or none because of sales. There ade cases when a theme gets 3 waves in a year, like lets say Ninjago this year gets 3 wave, one in january, one in march and one in june.

Mixed opinion. It really depends on which piece and what the graphic is. For gaudy kid stuff I prefer stickers so I can choose the ones I want, but small pieces and ones that imply functions, like money, telephones, signs, etc. I like prints. I really like stickers of generic lines and warnings so I can use them in custom builds. Pic related is the balance I try to hit.

I built this moc up to demonstrate the problems of a solid axel and how they are solved with a simple differential gear. Moving the wheels front to back shows the pros and cons of three different set ups. Technic and the old Lego expert sets are great for this type of thing. I will admit that sets like the new Lamborghini mostly suck since it doesn’t really demonstrate the engineering aspects of the car. For $500 USD I would expect something more then a bunch of lime green body parts. The vintage Lego expert auto chassis set had more going on then the Lamborghini for less money.
TLDR. Technic can be pretty based if you’re not a low IQ faggot.

I’ve found some good stuff at goodwill before. Unopened friends, and brickheadz sets for example. As well as bags of used bricks. Keep in mind that not all goodwill stores are the same. Some price to move quickly others actually research and wind up overpricing things. Go to a bunch of different locations to find the best stores. Also the ones in rich white neighborhoods tend to have the best stuff. The poorer areas usually just toss the inventory in big plastic bins so you have to dig around.

so i was a kid for 2012. I think the do, but the issue is half years. Its hard to be attached when the sets are outdated in 6 months. Kid probably focused on the ninja because I they knew them. Seem to be an issue that appears after the Oni trilogy because the sets were garbage.

Honestly based idea. I'd even take something licensed over the same generic vehicles over and over. Modern technic animals like Rahi from Bionicle would be super cool. I suppose most OG and licensed themes have tons of Technic integration already, but SOMETHING pure technic would be nice. Always loved the old Star Wars Technic figs from the 00s, very SOVL. But some new OG theme (like Cyber-Slam) would be better. 2007 was bonkle's best year since 01-02. The titan sets were all great, the Toa Mahri were really cool, the story was in full swing and the Barraki were the best villain sets since the Bohrok. They really changed up the builds on the canister sets, which had all basically been clones of each other since 2003. I had mostly lost interest in Bionicle after how shitty the hordika were but everything about 2007 sucked me right back in

I've heard people say that Lego invented tan in 1998 for Adventurers, but this isn't true at all. While the Adventurers line was the first extensive use of tan bricks, you may know that tan baseplates were used for the Western sets in 1996, and 1997 saw the first tan minifigs in the Indians subtheme and tan was also used for sand in the Outback and Divers town subthemes in the same year.
But the history of tan goes back further than that. The first use of tan as we know it today was in 1982 for loaves of bread in the Fabuland line. Tan 4x4 cones were also used as lampshades in a couple of duplo sets in the 80s and early 90s.
However, according to Bricklink, Lego made tan parts way back in 1957 in the form of 1:87 scale cars. I assume the plastic recipe would have been different back then so the colour wouldn't be exactly the same, but it's listed as tan on Bricklink. In fact tan has the colour code 2, larger only than white.

I'd do so many things just to get Technic figs back and to have some real life breathed back into Technic as a theme.
Lego's been relying too heavily on supercar bullshit with very little functionality or play value, even on the lower budget end. Honestly, the new space sets were such a breath of fresh air, especially the orrery.
But god, getting animalistic builds again would be the icing on the cake. Rahi were some of the best designs they've come up with. Even that little master builder set from Bionicle was a great exercise in showing how many neat little builds you could have, each with functions, that stand on their own.

I looked through the Elves catalog and while the lavender still repels me, the rest of the color palette is surprisingly cool. I like the goblin buildings with the yellowish green walls and that they made leaves red. I guess this type of unique and fresh color schemes has to be confined to minidoll girl lego, boys and adults just hate fun too much. When it was being released I hadn't developed that much of an appreciation for color yet and was also an insecure teen so I missed out completely.

They did for a while and I wish they'd return to it. Brickbuilt heads are always really clever and an enjoyable experience. Also one issue: this dragon in particular falls apart if you look at it wrong, as confirmed by the reddit op. I imagine it's a corner cut by lego so they don't have to pay attention to stability in addition to design in that area. Although there's some people that for whatever reason prefer the ugly prints on textureless surfaces.

Also the only way I can see them making minifigs is if they make the characters have huge Disney/Animal Crossing type specialized heads which will look like knockoffs. I can see the Pinocchio mold being used but even then they’ll look off. Mario is just too unique looking I think

If you look at the inventory on bricklink it pretty clearly states the part is #4460a, Slope 75 2x1x3 - Open Stud. However it also lists the other version #4460b (Hollow Stud) as an alternate item which means this set was produced with both versions.

As a kid it was probably between the dwarves mine, the medieval village, the 6210 Jabba's sail barge and combined variations of other star wars or medieval sets and minifigs on battlefields, towns, other mocs etc. that I would build from generic bricks
Only came out of my dark age recently and have been too busy sorting old sets to build mocs again (which I'll do from the sets I'm deciding to keep once I've got all their pieces together) or set up scenes with the few new sets I've bought, I like posing minifigs around the medieval blacksmith set but that's about it so far

I like to think the dwarf is watching in the same way that guys at a bbq watch the cook as he grills

It’s a very soulful set that really pops with the micro scale town, 3d willow tree, and lots of printed elements. Not to mention the tiny easel and minifigure. This is a massive Lego W. The great wave and mosaic sets suck by comparison

I think Dreamzzz would be more of a success if they capitalized even more on the wacky aspect of the dream world.
Make sets with environmental backdrops that look like for example Limbo from Atomic Heart.
Because so far they have tried handling the theme from a more abstract angle and that just not paid off.

I'm guessing you are from Bulgaria. I had the same problem. I placed an order for the bricklink Snack Shack and they cancelled my order because I put the address of the freight forwarder. I was THAT close to ordering the Mountain Castle too but I'm glad I didn't because if it happened with it I'd be quite mad.
