Really been wanting to MOC but haven't had the time. Too many other projects at the moment.

I used to hate the Adaptive Kaukau Nuva and deem it useless and ugly, but I've recently started to think that it might be of some use, as this Helryx MOC I found (not mine) shows.

I really hope Faber at least manages to get Lego to make comics or something for Bionicle. It's such a waste for them to just sit on the IP and do nothing with it. They could learn from Hasbro with Transformers and let some third parties take a crack at expanding the franchise.

They've been trying to shut that shit down for a long time, more so in the past. Why do you think they use names like Cassette Robo or Laserwave? Never any official faction symbols either.

Not what I meant. Not toys. Comics/books. Hasbro lets studios and creators outside of the company itself make story based media and entertainment for the franchise. Imagine if the Bionicle franchise had a comic/book series that Lego greenlit. Regardless of toys in the future or not I think it'd be neat to get something like that.

If Lego ever wants to make Bionicle work, they have to put full effort behind it, not a half-assed job like G2. The franchise was strongest as a multimedia property. Go all in with that to reach as many as you can. Toys, games, comics, books, online shit, extra merch, and what I think would be most vital in this day and age, a serialized adaptation. I'm talking a full-scale cartoon that could be thrown up on Netflix or other streaming services and advertised as another big "original." People eat that up, and it would help the brand's presence.
There is no reason for G2 not going this route. The potential is there, someone just needs to actually tap into it

From these, it seems like we're 100% getting something, even if the Lego execs go "fuck no" and don't even let him use the Bionicle name. So the worst-case scenario (aside from development hell and such) is still a totally-not-bonkle created by Faber himself. Things are looking good.

At this point I personally don't care for toys. Lego's quality in the last year alone has tanked to fucking hard, and it was already a steady decline since around 2006. If there aren't toys, I'll moc my own or something.

I don't follow System, do you mean set design (I know the Endgame sets have received lots of complaints for that) or parts quality?

Parts quality. Minifig face prints are fuzzier, and in cases like Lady Irondragon or the new Buzz Lightyear for TS4, their skintone is horrible on the darker head piece. Body part prints are constantly off center. Parts are constantly cracking. People speculate faster cooling times for their plastic, since Lego is producing the most they ever have recently, and a rushed production makes sense. Around 06, they started replacing colored pellets with pellets they dye to make the color of choice, and this new formula seems weaker. And lastly, they flatout have sets with cracks right on the boxart. Ninjago Legacy had a set with Nya having a huge crack in her torso. I fear a new line from Lego unless they clean their shit up.

Probably parts quality.
The amount of reports of parts cracking from just being connected steadily increases these days, even for parts and areas where you wouldn't believe that it's even possible for a crack to develop there.
People suspect it's a combination of faster injection/cooling times so they can produce more parts and sets (check out Brickset: the amount of different sets in 2017 was almost twice as much as in 2007 and even Lego admitted that they produced way too many bricks), a different mixture of plastics which is now translucent plastic pellets mixed with pigments instead of colored pellets and a redesign of parts that made the walls of them thinner.
The 2x4 is from the large Exploriens ship, the wedge from the old Ninjago skull bike.

Yeah, this is how I've always felt about Onua Mistika's and Kongu Mahri's Masks (and to a lesser degree about their sets). I particularly like the Pakari Mistika, especially for villains.
Up until recently, on the other hand, I shunned the Adaptive Kaukau and Hau outright, but lately I've been trying to find other uses for them.

The sets themselves are and always be dogshit, though. Fucking reverse Piraka torso, man. I'm glad 2009 got rid of that. Like who the fuck though that was a good idea at all.

But really, one thing G1 and G2 both sorely lacked was a big tentpole storytelling medium that new fans could easily latch onto. It could have been a cartoon or an actual full-length comic series that didn't have massive story gaps in it. Worked out well enough for Transformers and later Ninjago. Or heck, look at how much attention the Mask of Light movie brought to the franchise. Normies still remember that one, but I doubt they even knew there were comics or books. Then the momentum it had built up was squandered when the next two movies got minimal publicity that reached non-fans.
Bionicle thrives on media, it's arguably the best candidate for a Lego theme that could work as a story even without any (or just minimal) toys to back it up. It's got a big enough universe and cast of characters and a unique atmosphere with plenty of stories, themes and ideas you could adapt into a cartoon, a comic, a movie, a game or youth novel. Although I think a show would have the best chance to reach and grab audiences because they could just sit down at home and watch it, whereas they'd need much more convincing to get off their asses and pick up a game or comic or go see a movie.

Im not a chemistry expert but wouldn't slag it mess up the mold? maybe do a small test with a C shaped mold and small portion of slag placed in glass or something to see if there is any weird chemical reaction.

I mean, official third party Transformers do exist, they're just not allowed to actually transform. A few I can think of off the top of my head are Flame Toys and 3A. Hell, Flame Toys kits are probably what the ideal third party Bionicle would be like. A good quality model kit that's not too hard to assemble but adds articulation. I can't imagine Lego letting them be compatible with any actual Lego though (then again with constraction being dead what would they have to lose?).

But if you look at the original Toa characters, each has different trait - the leader, the strong, the fast, the edgy and the looney... The only trait Gali has is 'the girl'. Even her mask has the most useless power. I agree that as robots, they should be genderless, but if there already are robots in story with female traits at least give them some other characteristics, not just simply 'blue are grills'

I still have Ehlek and Hahli Mahri assembled from when I still got them because of fear of the ball sockets exploding. Already have one that did. That era was really the turning point in plastic decline. One of my Hewkii Mahri's legs snapped at the peg which i woudn't have imagined.

Secondly in terms of Matoran, there's only a few who we actually knew about or mattered in the story whatsoever; there's tons of Matoran, so in this hypothetical G3 where all the major characters still exist, and they introduced new characters who don't follow the G1 gender rule, I don't think people would mind at all.
People weren't mad when G2's Earth protector was confirmed to be a female, because it's a brand new character. If anything people were all for it.

Yes, instead almost all of them have the same fucking chestpiece and shoulders painted in different colors and barely no new different pieces of their own except a few shell pieces, which ended up being systematically reused for most sets ala Inika, and even then official Inika-like builds had more variety of armor.
Also why the emphasis on the heads of all the things? Is not like G1 didn't have entire waves with the same head like Rahkshi, Vahki or Rahaga.

Nice job cherripicking a set in which covering the back is piss easy because there is no function. Show the back of Grievous where there are exposed ball joints, the first Vader where he has to rely on a cape to cover some kinda ugly back or K2SO which has an arm function like Skull Basher.

See I was thinking about the Makuta Mistika yesterday. They're good sets on their own (*), but I wonder if they were designed by the same people who worked on the Makuta Phantoka. Who designed those made sure they actually wore Kanohi by using Metru heads. And they were very proud and imposing like a Makuta should be, even the bestial Vamprah. It's as if they knew their story significance of those guys and designed them accordingly.

By comparision the Mistika trio looked very weak and deformed. That's the point in-story, but sets come before the story so it's curious. They also don't wear actual Kanohi. One person once called them Barraki rejects: that's harsh, but I can see where they came from. So I wonder what made the designer team take a U turn and think "Nope, no Kanohi for these 3". The insectoid look could've been just as viable with actual Kanohi, as pic related shows. Did they even knew who those 3 were supposed to be?

As a buyer I felt pretty bugged about it, too. 3 of 8 of that year's main villains didn't even wear real Kanohi, and two were much shorter than the others, making the team feel very disjointed. And yet the minion villains did wear Masks.

Exo Force,Vikings and Racers were able to use Bonkle pieces in their themes and they are likely not the only ones. Even CCBS pieces are used in sets like the Hulkbuster.Hell there are even speciallized hybrid bricks that have an axle/pin hole or a balljoint cup
Granted your average limb piece cannot be normally used on a system set, saying that Technic/Bionicle/CCBS is not compatible with System just because not every single set in existence has said pieces is wrong and just perpetuates the autistic idea of BRICK GOOD, TECHNIC ROBOT BAD.

I honestly liked all of the G2 waves up until the final one. My favorites are, despite contention, the skull squad. I know skeleton baddies are seen as lame but I thought these were incredibly charming, especially considering they tried to make each one completely different from the rest.
I also think /biog/ was to blame for my love of them. All of the kultaposting and other shitposts with those skeletons was one of my fondest memories of G2. They were also the only wave I collected the entirety of.

How do you like my spider rahi so far? The legs do move but are just for looks. I'll add wheels later. Also I plan on including a breakable head with spring loaded trap jaws, and maybe a tail/trailer for a book or two to sit on.

Nice art mockup at least. I always loved Faber's eye for mood and juxtaposing different themes like nature and technology or, as in this pic, lava and ice. Also like how subdued it is, nothing overly flashy, it's more solemn and foreboding.
Makes me wonder, though, if he intends to inject some environmentalist theme into whatever he's planning, like global warming or something. That seems to be the big thing with Faber right now.

I always thought the Spherus Magna setup would be fine for a sandbox of sorts for fans to make up their own ending. It's a new status quo and a vast new world to play around in. Lets say the 2001-2010 story was the truly official stuff, while the post-cancellation serials and unused ideas were like those MOC ideas Lego used to put on the back of set boxes.
I know this fandom craves clear-cut answers, but we also know Greg mostly just made things up as he went and sometimes added things to the story without thinking through the ramifications. I see no worth in waiting and asking to get more of that when you know it's gonna be random aimless shit. But maybe I just say that cause the serials were my least favorite canon story elements by far.

I just feel like he could tie up most of the cliffhangers he left behind in only a few chapters. Dealing with Velika, Marendar, and the Red Star shit would be simple enough, I think. Have them culminate in a final confrontation against Velika manipulating Marender that, with help from those revived by the Red Star, ends in their defeat.

The tricky part would be making Takanuva's destiny impactful in such a short amount of words. I'd be satisfied if Greg ended the story during a brief moment of peace. Explain that the other Great Beings and the Element Lords will certainly return to stir conflict, but that Takanuva will lead the people of Spherus Magna to thwart them. That sort of open ending would still allow the reader to continue the story on their own, but would be infinitely more conclusive than a literal ticking time bomb.

I've lurked that game's Discord channel for a while. It has all the hallmarks of a Patreon scam, just without the Patreon. I don't think it's intentionally deceptive, to quote an anon, it's just kids RPing as game developers. They have been working on two versions of the game for the past year or so, the public build that they're calling the legacy version (even though they're still actively adding new features to it outside of bugfixes), and one they haven't actually shown much of at all besides assets and stills, and mostly just saying it's better than the one that's out right now. The version that is available is what you could generously call a proof of concept. They are proud enough of it that they will name every update, even if it's something like adding a new entity or rock.

There's no content to speak of, there's no realistic design goals, the smallest, most basic features are considered a triumph. It's supposed to be an open-world action RPG, but the world is empty and ugly, the combat is built from stock unreal assets, and whatever RPG elements they intend to add probably won't be very well balanced, or at worst, annoying if there's crafting and recovery items involved. And it's built in blueprints. If it's not vaporware, it's still shit.

He was a general Lego Media guy not confined only to Bionicle. He once got a pitch for a Johnny Thunder cartoon show that didn't get made. I can't remember if he was the one who turned it down because the post that talked about this in depth is gone now.
He wanted to do more flashback arcs, but they were too confusing for kids, so they dropped this idea.
He famously envisioned Bionicle's story to be made up of "seven books", with each overall saga (Mata Nui, Metru Nui, Ignition) representing one. He never revealed what he imagined the rest of those books to be like.
He's passion for extreme sports like surfing inspired the shifting Coliseum floor scene in the second movie.
He never explained to the rest of the Story Team how Kapura could go fast by walking slow, so that ability never came up after he left Lego.
He had this weird idea about the the characters' biological buildup that they were going through an evolution from organic to mechanical. This is why most characters in the Miramax films are partially organic, but some like the ash bear are fully robotic.
He was all about the Toa using non-violent solutions to deal with threats. He loved the test animation created by Creative Capers, about Lewa trapping a giant Lewa instead of fighting it, and he decided to hire them to create the Miramax films.
He made weird Rahkshi noises with his mouth during the production of MoL.
Someone posted a recent photo of him some time ago that I can't find. He grew a beard and looks kinda like a more well-adjusted version of Marv from Home Alone.

Im 20 know and I think i first got into it with my cousines rackshi and Toa Nuva, but i started getting my own durring the metro nui stuff in 2005. From 2005-2011 I remember Bionicle as this great giant scary enigma. My young slef barely knew how to use the internet so I remember trying to find essoteric peices of media online and being so enamired when I found something like the mata nui online game, or the spider toa action comic stuff. It was like solving a great mystery and i have so many nostalgic feels for the setting if not the actual toy line. This was largely in part due to the wonky way lego did their mediaaa campain, but I have to say as a child having to find each peice was magical. I remember fealing like an archeologist or some shit decifering old abandon heiroglyphs when I transcribed the bionicle alphabet (Just a one to one smbol change of the english alphabet) on to a peice of scrap paper and trying to decipher the little circle language they put all over there stuff. it was prime kino and felt like an actual digital adventure.

Can someone please find me pictures showing how the fuck you're supposed to holster a spiked mace or morning star? I'm trying to find storage for a weapon like this on one of my characters, but I can't find any visual evidence for how it's supposed to be done.

Don't know how big the mace head itself is, but it's usually like this, with the head keeping it from falling through the holster

Morning star or flail would be trickier, considering it's a chain, probably just connect the handle and head to the user's body separately

Of course "thousands of years" is a complete fucking peanuts timespan in G1's setting, but aside from that the general idea has some merit. Place G3 far enough in the future and you have a largely independent story that can do all the new things it pleases, while the nostalgia appeal is included in the form of mythology and ancient history. You could even do the unfinished parts of G1 as "lost history" where there are no surving records of what actually happened. Also, a society descended from the Agori/Matoran mix that inhabited Spherus Magna at the end would be a great fit for the "coexisting with AI" theme Faber has hinted.

Step 1. Decanonize 2009/10.
Step 2: In the first half of year 1 G3 it is just set inside another mata nui style robot on it's own planet with it's own toa/matoran who are very similar to G1 matoran
Step 3: The mask of life crash lands into this new robot in the second half of year one, allowing for the two universes to combine

The idea of having the original stuff still there with a very loose connection is exactly that you can pick and choose only the elements that make it good while ignoring all the additional bullshit. So? G2 did a lot of things but disconnecting it from G1 besides one mask and some names helped it much more. No waking up a giant robot again, no shitty underground city with underground politics to clutter it up pointlessly, none of the story beats that the original had. It was at least something different.

Nuhvok had the Xa in the comics. It's pearl gold- the colour of Nuhvok-Kal's Krana-Kal before it turns silver.

The Xa was actually lower in the hierarchy among the Kal, its "Swarm Commander" function replaced by its ability to awaken the Bahrag on contact. The Za took the role of "Overseer", hence why Tahnok-Kal, the leader, used it.

It could reasonably be assumed that Pahrak-Kal defaulted to the Ca-Kal, hence it being the one to discover the location of the Bahrag.

Hero Factory lasted 4 years, despite being ccbs for 3 and having nothing to do with bionicle. Why? Lego actually kept improbing the sets with every wave. We went from 2.0 with hollow backs to unique mechs and interesting monsters like Splittor Beast, Waspix, and shit like Rocka's jetpack. Bionicle had zero marketing prior to release other than the ComicCon panel and some shitty teasers on the Lego website. No commercials or story of any substance prior to launch, and it barely gave us any solid story until year two, only giving us barebones webimations and the books that didn't hit till the end of the year. And back to the sets, they blew it out of the water with the first wave, but then they did just get shittier as the waves went on. No unique monsters of significant size, bipedal villains that were a step down from the Toa, shit didn't get interesting till the ginal wave and by then it was again too late for an impact to be made. Lego fucked Bionicle and CCBS in a lot of ways but take the rose tinted glasses off. Redoing G1 wouldn't have amounted to shit because they still would've still blown the budget and mishandled the marketing.

I don't have anything against Hero Factory, and I'll admit CCBS was definitely improving at a fast pace, but I just cannot bring myself to say it was anywhere as good as the old system. With the old system at least, it was highly compatible with Technic, meaning there was a much wider variety of things you were able to build with it. Lego did try to experiment in HF and G2 with a few animal builds, but they just weren't very good in my opinion.
Look at it this way; people absolutely love the Mixels joints, and I do too. It's a simple handful of parts that expand traditional System's potential, allowing you to build tons of great little mechs or robots or even animals out of System bricks and pieces. Now, imagine if they made an off-shoot system that used the same ball joints and sockets, but it didn't have any System-compatible connections unless you used the older Mixels pieces. That's insanely limiting, and that's exactly what happened to old Constraction. By no means was it perfect, it had a lot of huge, bulky and overly-specific parts a lot of the time, but in concept it's still leagues better than CCBS ever will be, in my eyes.

CCBS alone is quite limiting, but combining it with just a little Technic and System makes a three part formula that is way better than Bionicle and Technic alone. CCBS parts have so much value.

For what it's worth, here's Faber's own words about Takanuva and Terry and their logos:
"When light clashed with darkness in 2003 in the caves beneath Mata Nui it was marked by these logos and nametags. They had a hint to the bigger story. The fact that they fit together is very in line with Bionicle mythology like the jing-jang logo. Takanuva had to merge with Makuta to defeat him. The film's ending is clearly a sloppy mess of half-realized ideas, would be nice if we ever got the true story behind it, but I doubt even the creators remember their original plan at this point. The best I can piece together is that Makuta wasn't intended to be fully evil, but was instead influenced by powers beyond him ("My duty is to the Mask of Shadows"), and removing his mask and fusing with Takanuva somehow purified him, at least momentarily. And only a being born out of the most powerful evil and most powerful good character had the strength to lift up the gate and lead the islanders back into the giant robot.
Of course this last idea was completely nullified in canon, since someone else had to lift up the gate again for them to go back to Mata Nui and then back down again, making Takutanuva's sacrifice pointless. Like I said, it's a mess.

as opposed to whom? the only malicious entities outside of the robot were infected Rahi and Kraata, both of which Makuta put there. the Toa/Matoran were the ONLY ones trying to get back in, there was no rightful reason to stop them.

would have made more sense if there was an other established evil force living outside of Mata Nui, maybe later revealed to be natives of the planet the robot crashed on. would be a nice analogy for picking up disease after going to a foreign country

as for Makuta being simply corrupted by the mask of shadows/mask of ultimate power, it's something LEGO likes to do in general, IIRC Ninjago has done it with their big bads several times

From what I understand, the ending to Mask of Light being such a custerfuck is mostly the result of plans changing last minute regarding the GSR reveal. Bionicle was only going to go for a single year like Roboriders, then it got a 2-year extension after it performed so well, and another indefinite extension some time in the latter half of 2003. Going by concepts that would have been observed by the story team at the time, Makuta wasn't terrorizing the Matoran and keeping Mata Nui asleep just because he was an evil asshole, but because reactivating the GSR would destroy the island, killing all everything on it. His main function was to protect the inhabitants of the robot at any cost, so even though his methods might have been ruthless or extreme, he saw his actions as necessary to carry out his duty. Tempar's most recent MNOG blog entry even alluded to this, "(...) because from the beginning, that’s not what it was about. The Makuta wasn’t evil, and his brother, Mata Nui, wasn’t good."

While while Makuta's motivation was a little muddled from the outset (i.e. keeping all Matoran out of Mangaia, the one place they would be safe from an awakening Mata Nui), he was always intended to be revealed as an opposing force and sympathetic antihero instead of a straight-up villain. Takutanuva, at the time of writing, was likely representative of conflicting ideologies merging; a greater, mutual understanding emerging from an exchange of information, and the ability of both sides cooperating to reach a solution. Takanuve realizes why Makuta is being such a dick, and Makuta realizes he doesn't have to be a dick There's a significant amount of material cut from the Takanuva/Makuta encounter that we'll never see, but the deleted scenes from the DVD release at least line up with the "Makuta is a misunderstood good guy" angle they were going for initially.

The whole "summon the Matoran" line is also a remnant of this. If we go by the preliminary plot summary someone unearthed a while back, the island was meant to be gradually falling apart during the film, necessitating the relocation of the entire Matoran population. There's a hint to this when Jaller almost falls of a cliff due of a small tremor that just inexplicable happens. Hence Takanuva's completely out of the blue request to gather the Matoran in Mangaia. Storyboards even show that Matoran were meant to be there too, not just the Toa, Turaga and Hahli as in the final movie. They had to go down there cause staying on the surface would have been more dangerous if Mata Nui awoke. That's also why everyone runs through the gate, cause it was some kind of hatch that sealed the robot up.
But of course this never panned out. Takanuva asks for all the Matoran to come down, but only the Toa and Turaga show up, then they lock themselves outside Makuta's balcony for no reason, only to go back again. Add on top of this the hastily shoved-in death and resurrection of Takanuva, which occurs neither in the novelization or the film's storyboards, and you got an ending that's multiple levels of retarded and makes no sense in any context. Even Jaller yelling "Get out of there!" was recycled from an earlier scene because they couldn't do retakes or record new lines with the voice actors once the ending got changed.
The only sensible thing anyone does is to bring Jaller back to life, and even then Takutanuva kills himself for no reason. Couldn't he have put the gate back down and give his lifeforce to Jaller when he wasn't in danger of being crushed?

trying to get my head around Makuta's original motivation in this scenario. he doesn't want anyone to reawaken Mata Nui because it would destroy the island and kill everyone, therefore he doesn't want anyone to die. but the island is falling apart and he doesn't want to let them in to the one place they will be safe from it..?

I assume something about the discovery of the Mask of Light would have "triggered" the robot somehow to begin reactivating, and Makuta thought he could cancel the process if he had the mask for himself. Because otherwise the robot had no reason to start stirring. Or here's a less likely idea, maybe the fights between the Toa and Rahkshi unleashed such tremendous energies that they unwittingly began shaking the island apart. Makuta was reluctant to release the Rahkshi after all, and Panrahk was described as (but not shown) causing explosions just by walking.
Or Makuta was just a dumbass as part of his "misguided" persona. At any rate, they dropped that plot but its fallout still influenced the film's climax. Really looks like someone in charge didn't think things through, and that just makes me wonder what would have happened in that other script, written by Swinnerton, that got rejected.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a "G3" but more of a continuation of the original storyline. Maybe like the first arc of "G3" will be a summary of the original story (with fucking remastered sets for each wave holy fuck that'd be amazing getting the original masks again with kickass new designs I know it's probably too good to be true but a man can dream) but eventually when it gets to the part where it stopped it will keep going.

Either way I'm excited to see where this goes.

I would say you have a point but I can't help but feel the Miru, Pakari, and Kaukau completely miss the mark. I can kinda see the resemblance in the Hau, Kakama, and the Miru somewhat. The only one that bares a strong resemblance is the Akaku but that's just my opinion. Those are good as a hard reboot but I was talking more along the lines of a soft reboot.

Turns out it is old, but not as old as G1. Faber made it in 2016 shortly after the G2 cancellation. So it might have little to do with his current plan, he's just reposting it to stir up interest.

I wouldn't want that, since I respect the man and his projects, but I hope he realized his secrecy and his refusal to engage in clear talk with the fans isn't healthy for this fandom and his relationship with it. It isn't entirely his fault that so many fans have gone full throttle autistic and are taking it for granted that this is totally gonna be a Bionicle reboot or even a full-on G1 sequel. But given his position as a (once) significant voice for the franchise with several wide-reaching platforms, I think he does have some responsibility to tone down the hype and keep fans from getting overly eager about something that's basically a whole lotta nothing at this point.
If he really has no clear outlook on what he's attempting, then there's nothing wrong with admitting that and being transparent about it. I get that he enjoys the fan enthusiasm and wants to show it to Lego too, and I'm totally on board with that because Lego needs to know there's a segment of their fan base that's been left disappointed and sour for years. But like I said, Faber's secrecy isn't merely garnering enthusiasm, it's also spreading cynicism, suspicion and discord among the fans, and this dreck of a community is full of those anyway, so there's really no need to amp it up. And if all this cryptic teasing will turn out to have been for nothing (or at least something that's only vaguely related to Bionicle, which is highly possible), it could leave both the fandom and Faber worse-off than they were before.

I got all the parts together and tried to build Ancient. Just FYI, none of the instructions out there are accurate. I couldn't tell you exactly how the hell he's supposed to be built, only that every tutorial out there is wrong in comparison to the actual contest submission. Now that I've got the "fan version" put together, it's easy to see that the legs aren't correct at all, the head isn't attached right, and there's more shit going on in the body that I can't quite figure out.

it's like how everyone complains about greg's serials like they're integral parts of the story when they're just side stories away from the main action

for all intents and purposes G1 ended in 2010; if B3 or any other new project alludes to it, the 2011 serial arc will be a footnote if it gets mentioned at all, because 2010 was the logical stopping point.

Update. I figured out how to make his legs accurate. Also attached his head in a way that I feel is more true to the original intent. Still trying to figure out the torso - I've spotted peices that no one else seems to have noticed and am trying to understand what the hell they're there for. I don't have an essential Roborider element used in his left arm, so I'll have to wait before I can rework that assembly as well. Hopefully I'll have a more accurate Ancient completed soon.

Disappointment isn't that bad. A little bit of unhappiness at some point in the future is a risk I'm willing to take in exchange for all the joy and excitement that comes from just imagining what could be if, against all odds, everything does work out perfectly.

The Avohkii does have some additional powers just like the Kraahkan (iirc one senses and spreads positive emotions and the other does the opposite), but it's even more bothersome if you're not into the "Light equals good and Shadow equals evil" theme 2008 hammered down on (I'm not, for one).

It's can't be that disappointing, because Faber has ideas for Bionicle beyond just remaking the Mata Nui years. Lego wasn't interested in expanding the scope of Bionicle in G2 beyond tweaking it to fit in better with the "big bang" system themes. Even if B3 doesn't amount to much what we get will at least be interesting.

Yeah, I kinda agree with this.

What was lost with G1's cancellation was the original plans for 2010-2011, which was set to lead up to something akin to the 2010 we actually got. The actual post-2010 content wasn't remotely important, nor was any of it all that good.

You know, though I doubt this Faber initiative will lead to anything substantial (or anything at all really), I think the abandoned plot about sentient robots searching for and confronting their shady creators could have the potential to carry its own theme, be it a Bionicle reboot or a spiritual successor. Especially since Faber seems to be really interested in the topic of AI.
They could easily recycle that concept into a new story while preserving the broad thematic elements of G1: the juxtaposition of technology and nature, sci-fi and fantasy, characters deifying forces and people they don't understand, villains toying with powers far beyond anyone else, and ancient mysteries unraveling as we see the world through the eyes of the characters themselves. These are the true hallmarks of Bionicle to me, just as important (if not more so) as surface-level stuff like masks, elemental powers and spindly robo dudes wearing greebly armor.
