It'd have to be an updated version or in the likeness of 5988 Pharaohs Forbidden Ruins, which is arguably the most iconic / best adventurers set. I'd call it The Temple of Anubis.

LEGO hasn't cashed in on Egyptophiles in a decade, with the last being Pharaoh's Quest in 2011 which had an impressive pyramid, the last use of a raised baseplate, and excellent minifigs.

The OG set had an incredible amount of unique parts, many high quality printed hieroglyph / decorative pieces, and even unique recolors of animals. It didn't even use a raised baseplate so that wouldn't be a problem. It has two great vehicles and heck even a palm tree to boot. It'd be a great excuse to rehash an updated Pharaoh Hotep and include nearly every other adventurer / villain.

The build has a great feature of having two main structures, the tall outer façade and the inner chamber which can separate for easy play.

The Jungle / Orient themes touch too much on colonialism vibes (if being used in a non-fantasy / more reality grounded setting) so LEGO likely won't touch them, but Egypt is literally ancient history.

Anyway, I can tell you what I wouldn't do, which is an amusement park ride.

Honestly just buy the waifu, it's not going to get cheaper. People drop buckets of money for newly released sets but as soon as someone tries to sell a single rare retired minifig secondhand for $20+ it is suddenly harder to justify for people.

Unless you just wanted to complain about prices. Yeah, cool rare things do tend to be expensive.

I got a collection with a ton of old brown chests (and small cart wheels, I think whoever owned it before had a bunch of 1463). A lot of the chests and lids have worn down hinges and won't connect, anyone have ideas for what to do with them? I've already used a couple of lids upside down as food troughs for my stable.

The build is a bit repetitive (support stand & the two symmetric ends).
If you plan on motorising the set you'll have to take out the cabin interior.
The pantographs are the least sturdy part of the set so you'll have to take extra care with them.

Every 1x2 brick has a masonry / grill profile. Much of the floorspace is a sexy kitchen. There is an avocado on the cutting board. This set turned me gay.

There's a pretty nasty gap between the cab and noses of the train. There's a bunch of people that've documented how you can fix this while still having it be able to navigate Lego's R40 curves. If you want to fix that along with the derailing thing the other anon mentioned Jang has a video on that too

If you're completely new to Lego trains and have zero track, I'd honestly recommend getting a 3rd party set of curves with a larger radius over using Lego's curves. The wider curves will make for much better turns for the Crocodile and prevent it from derailing as much. If you're European go with TrixBrixx

If it's something you REALLY want, buy it and keep it in the box until you either move to a bigger place or find a way to make room for it. I have yet to see a large set that has ever been retail price after retiring.

I'm so sorry anon, I did what I could. Lego Vidiyo is just so pretty, I tried so hard to love it, more than anyone else. But It's so broken T_T

The 1 minute time limit is a lie. It's worse than you can imagine. Even if the Lego Gestapo miraculously deems it appropriate to download, you can only export a 20 second clip max. It's so anti-Video it's stunning. In the end I just filmed my phone again, but it's so pretty... T_T

I'm gonna go buy some Lego harry potter to try help me feel better, but please anon, enjoy your kits. I will try too.

Greetings /lg/!
After a long and unfortunate period of absence I have returned, bringing you a blast from the past!
This time it's the 1986 Classic Space XT Starship!
This mid-range ship must have been all the rage back in the day as it comes equipped with the innovative Light and Sound system. This meant it had 4 small lights that could blink intermittently or stay on and one speaker system that could play two different sound types.
Apart from this the ship also had other features such as a detachable front and rear section and a small flyer that could be tucked away in the rear section and used when needed.
Where I feel it falls short is the number of figures. With only one CS astronaut I feel the set is somewhat lacking in this regard. I understand why they did it, as there is little room on the ship where a second figure could be seated, but at least a droid of some sort tucked away near the flyer could have been added.
Overall I feel this is a great set. It's sturdier than I initially thought it would be and I think it would have been a blast to play with as a kid.
If you're a fan of early Space stuff, you should have this one on your radar.

Started work in Stud.io on a little tank. Not going to be a real-world tank or anything, just a fun little dieselpunk contraption. As a side note, whilst obviously the wheel bogies are fixed, the axles running through the chassis could technically work as torsion bars.

Yeah. Not only was it one of the few windscreens I had but the only one in yellow.
They are tricky because you have to make them face upside down and can only use the studs in the "roof" because trying to connect it like an umbrella may leave without space inside

Lego needs to license the production of retired parts, raised baseplates, cloth and stickers to some 3rd parties. It's bullshit that some parts or specific colored parts only came in single sets ages ago. It doesn't help that some of those are extremely expensive on BL and the likes.

I gave the shoulders a pair of those heavier rachet parts and added some boney details to cover them some since they had to sit out a bit from the chest. Then I replaced the floppy tail joints with mixels and added an extra joint when that made it shorter. The mixels are on the very edge of weight tolerance holding it up like that.

Oh yeah, I also had to change how the wings attach since they were originally worked into the static shoulders and I think I needed them a little further out for clearance. Feel I could have done more with them since they also barely articulate but I didn't need to for how I wanted to display it.

They really should licensed and release retired parts to third parties. That wouldn't be first time either. Pirate sails would be a success as replacement prices. It would also bring the Pirate themes price down.

That trans-orange dome is amazing, the ones on market are completely scratched requiring a refurbish. I would love to buy one new for a fair price.

I take off their heads and hands, toss them into a bag, and put regular yellow parts onto them. Unless the body parts show off fleshy skin as well. Then I just bag those too. Which is annoyingly common and is why I really hate fleshies. I wouldn't say I hate Ninjago per se. If anything, it's the only theme I actually like these days. Unfortunately, that has less to do with me liking Ninjago and more to do with the fact that it's the only unlicensed fantasy/sci-fi theme LEGO does anymore, and thus the only one that makes the kind of sets that I like, with dragons, monsters, mechs, and maybe the occasional Asian building. The theme itself, though, is a mess, a constant hodge-podge of settings that would have worked better as standalone themes by themselves, but instead just get shoehorned into Ninjago with those same damn uninspired ninja characters and their wacky vehicles every time.

Sadly, if the theme ever goes, which it looks like it might very well, I think that'll be the end of unlicensed LEGO fantasy and sci-fi. It's all just gonna be endless Star Whores, Hairy Pothead, and capeshit from here.

I got her from legos website buying individual parts only part they didn't have was the cape, no idea who she is and didn't buy her for wifuism or anything just thought it was an interesting figure
Bricks and pieces has a surprising number of figures available from currently available non licensed sets, although they never had the orcs from one of the latest ninjago waves when I looked

I did the same with the small white dragon that came with wu in that same wave, the back legs seemed too close together and didn't move much I just added an axel with a ball joint on the pelvis and appropriate connection on the leg, about 4 peices changed and it looks 50x better

Typical footprint is 16x16, plus there's a small "porch" extension in front of all doors. Some floors are a little bigger, like 16x18, depending on what's going on with the floors around them.

Most of what I've posted so far in the /lg/ is generic residential units and filler floors that don't have any windows or entrances and are just there to bulk up the background. I've been keeping the really nonstandard stuff a secret for the time being. Pretty much every floor that's accessible has a front door on one side and a back door on the opposite side. Residential floors have the main front door and a back porch area. Commercial floors have the front entrance facade and a rear service entrance.

This. Though there's something about that 1x2 plate,the connections and writing are much different. Funny that >>9400969 mentioned Tente, as they were the main highlight along all the space sets. They have this interesting hinge piece that can close down into a brick with studs on both sides. Machinery is on the 3rd party, license cost is on the 3rd party, bad sales are on the 3rd party. All Lego has to do is cash in from the license agreement and a margin from sales. Absolutely zero risk for them.

Could it be they never thought about licensing retired parts? Would also be astonishing.

Anyways, I'm rebuilding Neptune Discovery Lab (6195), and it tears my heart to see the raised baseplates - even stored - are starting to crack.

At this point I think I'll glue some metal wirings beneath the peaks to reinforce the structure, or perhaps some 2x4 blue bricks to stay 'lego', but I'm not going to let the plates crack.

Same with the monorail tracks. A 3rd party company held the patents and when they went bankrupt, LEGO could no longer make monorails.

The raised baseplates and huge transparent panels are my favorite pieces ever made, I have a nice collection. If you want them, get them, LEGO is never remaking the huge vintage 90's parts. The molds are too large and use too much plastic. They cost too much per part to manufacture. Secondhand everything is still pretty affordable at like $10-25 or whatever, it's really not that expensive.

The Sheep on BNP were available for a glorious hour and I was going to give y'all a heads up but they're already out of stock again, guess I should have expected that. I only found them because I was randomly buying some reindeer / stags for my forestbois to ride.

The reindeer are still in stock along with all the lions and stuff. The elephant head is now for sale at $5+ but the body still isn't available. I guess you could always call in an order like that one guy but I'm guessing the whole thing would still cost over $30.

I like having a mix of the plain smilies and more unique faces. The old plain faces are simple enough that it doesn't look weird to have a lot of them together like in your image, but if a squad of your soldiers all have pic related for a face it looks like they're clones. But of course I still like to have unique faces for my heroes and the occasional beard on common footsoldiers to make them a little more interesting.

I wonder if it would be feasible to 3D print replicas of the old raised baseplates. They would be thicker since it's a different type of plastic and production process and the prints would present a problem (maybe stickers?), but I think people would go for them.

Bought this thing because the box was damaged and therefore half off.

If I had paid full price for it I would've expected a camera crew bursting into my home after building the set and a guy yelling "YOU JUST GOT PUNK'D!".
Like, holy shit, demanding 70 fucking Eurobucks for that thing is borderline criminal.
It's a ridiculously barebones build and often I wondered "...that's it?" during construction since so many places feel unfinished and/or below Lego's usual standards of overdesigning things to make them more secure or elaborate.
After over one and a half decade, the ratchet hip joints from the Exo Force days are also in dire need of a narrower redesign since just like on the Reinhardt figure they're way too wide and fuck up the supposedly sleek design of Arishem.
However, there are two highlights that are absolutely amazing and it's absolutely baffling that the boxart and promo shots don't do them justice: the dishes on the Celestial's feet and the wing blades of the deviant are iridescent and glitter which looks absolutely fantastic in person
I can see those parts becoming quite the items on the aftermarket.

What I like about that era of minifigs is how they had rich detail but without simulating 3D depth like some do nowadays with wrinkles in the clothes. Also having two or three torsp prints per profession was neat. Long ago I made a similar statement that was so much liked by someone that he spammed it as a reply, similar to the small build with lotsa personality guy.
These are the Town Jr. ones. They were already experimenting in details that would pave the way for World City Though some prints are from earlier in the 90s. and they are lacking iconic ones of the era like the guy with a stubble and blue-shaded glasses

Oh wow, while looking closer at the promo image I just noticed something: apparently whoever built the model for that shot was also under the impression that some building steps just couldn't possibly be right.
The 1x1 plates with clips where the fingers of those larger figures are attached to are normally sandwiched inbetween other parts to make them more secure but on this set they're just slapped onto a plate and nothing else - hell, they didn't even use one of the 1x2 dual clip ones for more clutch power.
Meanwhile the guy who built that one put the triangle tile on top to secure at least two of the clips.

Ooh. That is fair. The Mission deep sea figs color scheme seems to be dark blue/dark grey, and the aquazone headgears do come in black / dark grey with an assortment of colored visors. The dark grey headgear with a trans dark blue visor is about the best I could recommend for one retro looking fig.

Even the ultra agents / agents / seabound ninjago figs don't have too many underwater offerings that fit the color scheme. The recent deep sea explorers in the city line does have a dark blue underwater headgear, though!

I'm not sure about vacuum forming, it doesn't strike me as expensive, though you'd need to find some place with the machinery to do it (and an original part for copying).

3D printing is the easiest way to replicate them, imo, but the thing though is that you'd need a very precise printer to achieve good connections (if a quality replica is the aim). Lego works with 1/100 mm (10 microns) tolerance levels AFAIK, and I'm not sure how precise you can get with common-ish printers.

Alternatively, you could modify the 3d project files so that the studded areas are lowered a little bit, then you use proper lego on top of those areas to get back to the proper height, with the bonus that you now have good, proper lego connections. I think I'll try this second method.

At least as placeholders it would work. If quality and color can be added to it, better yet.

I got the 'secret of the sphinx' baseplate stolen as a child (brother took it to school because of a project, science showcase or whatever, and left it unattended), and while it is not terribly expensive, I still think it sucks that Lego refuses to address such problems, and loads of these parts are being hoarded by a*****, artificially preventing people from getting older sets.

The tan sphinx raised baseplate is between $15-20 on bricklink for a good condition one. Given a new 32x32 flat baseplate retails for $6-10, I feel like 20 bucks aint bad for a massive hunk of 20 year old vintage plastic that is highly sought after / beloved (not to mention tons of printing).

What do people expect to pay? Even the castle ramps can still be had for $25-40 if you just look on ebay and have a bit of patience. I doubt lego could produce and sell parts like this for less than $25-30 nowadays. Have you seen what they charge for any larger part on bricks and pieces? You can even pay less than $20 for a majority of them if you're ok with a crack or some dented studs (incredibly common).

Peeps really gotta temper there expectations. $20-40 is not a lot of money for a large and highly sought after vintage part, especially considering for that price you'd only get a handful of vintage minifigs, or a new creator set with 200 parts and zero minifigs.

Speaking as a seller, I hate selling these things. They are huge, fragile, and a pain in the ass to ship with high shipping costs.

As a collector / MOC builder, I love them and hoard them, yes, but it's not to resell. I just think they're awesome.

3d printing I don't feel is very viable to replace these, given theyre not that expensive in the first place and 3d printing works in layers - meaning you will never get the smooth corners and sheen without afterwork, and historically there are problems with clutch power. I'd love to be wrong, though.

Trainfag here, from my experience 3D printing only works well when it comes to smaller bits and pieces (Like a wheel or a minifig utensil), with the biggest you can feasibly make a 3D printed piece and have it look halfway decent is a piece of track. You're still faced with the troubles of 3d printed anything such as having to sand down the ribbed sides caused from the printing process though.

I'm surprised the black helmet isn't more expensive. According to BL it was only on one minifig, one of the Ninjago skeletons (which were about a decade ago) and the only other army helmets are bright green. Maybe Brickarms and the like are easing demand?

I'm not a 3D printing expert but I was looking at a cheap resin printer recently and it had 50 micron accuracy. That's a good idea using plates for the studs. I think they'd have to be glued or they would come off whenever you try to take other parts off (although maybe you could make the studs slightly too wide to hold them in tightly).
