Profit margin on a $20-$30 set is way less than when you spend $160+ to get this small GWP.

Well this is embarassing, I had to move around this build and the whole cliff collapsed. I had long waited to further develop the landscape, as I haven't posted about the Hydroanon's saga in a while, but rebuilding demands time.

The exact kits you had as a kid have always been available on the secondary market, whether you buy a set or piece them together yourself.

The old / new greys divide ensures that nothing will be quite like the true originals / old versions.

Most parts that made us love the classic sets are long out of production, but I do very much enjoy callbacks or references when applicable.

Definitely not worth that price. Most of those pirates figs only cost a few bucks, especially with all those missing parts.

Some of the castle figs are worth more. Forestmen are worth a lot, Dark Firestmen are worth even more. Wolfpack are worth a bit. None of these figures look complete though, most of them don't even look accurate, just cobbled together.

They were abandoned due to the general consensus of them looking "yuckier" because the old grey / dark grey have more green in them.

The new greys (notably called bluish grey) have more blue than green in them and hence seem more metallic.

The newer bluish greys are more accurate for the starwars stuff, but I find the old yucky greenish greys to fit better for the oldschool castles / rocks.

There's no reason they'd notice unless they're looking over your shoulder making sure each item rings correctly, and they definitely don't care enough to pay that much attention after a week on the job. Their system has cameras everywhere, sure, and in some hard drive there's video evidence of you scanning the $50 lego set for $4, but it didn't set off any flags immediately so nobody will ever go back and look. And also if it's a ghetto walmart then they're more concerned with Daquarius Jackson who just pushed an entire shopping cart out the door without even pretending to pay for any of it.

They tried that in the USA when they first introduced self-checkouts, but keeping them calibrated and working properly was more trouble than it was worth and made people hate the self-checkouts since they'd always trip you up and bitch about the weight sensor not triggering. And people still found ways to sneak things through anyway. There was actually a study that proved the scale did nothing to reduce theft, compared to just making a self-check that didn't weigh anything and thus worked quickly and properly more often.

It's an ugly fucking ship and it's also non canon as it belongs to the Rebels cartoon or whatever. It might go up only because I've noticed some of the bigger Lego YouTubers (don't watch them, just see the fucking thumbnails on my feed now) are kinda zoomer. These guys probably were kids when clone wars and rebels came out so I'm thinking in a few years there will be a bunch of older people getting back into Lego and wanting those Rebels and Clone Wars stuff. It might also be a decent set for Mandalorian show fans.

What's up with this alleged BAM? It was posted about on "Jay's Brick Blog" but I couldn't find any information about it anywhere; no entry on BrickLink, nothing else in a Google search, or eBay, or here... somebody near me is selling this old chima display from toys r us for like $150. I'm thinking about making a larger / longer version of picrel but I only have the green hulls and the black / white sails from the red beard runner.

I'd still have the red trimming / adornments but I'm afraid the black/white striped sail won't look as good as the classic red/white striped.

Honestly unless you have a massive basement / house where space isn't a premium, I'd pass. It's just "neat" but not particularly cool, especially if you don't have a special liking for chima. I'd rather have a basic city one or something.

It's a fantastic set. It looks great on the outside, has one of the most detailed interiors in a LEGO building ever, and comes with some nice knight minifigs if you're aching for some Castle characters. It works as both a display piece and a playset. It's only problem, as one anon already said, is that it's TOO good. This blacksmith shop is larger and more detailed than most castle sets (especially the most recent Creator one), which can make it hard to fit it into any world if you're not a serious MOCer.

Most youtubers that do one niche thing end up hating what they do, but can't go back to wagecucking so they keep doing it.

They pretend to be passionate and enjoy the hobby, but you can really tell when they're just tired of it and want to move on. It's hard to watch to, because usually channels start to die and things become more and more apathetic and negative during. Then they try to subsidize their channel's death through other revenue income streams like twitch or patreon and they just end up shrinking their fanbase down to their most adamant fans. Whom slowly start to disappear as time goes on.

When he feels the need to get all passive-aggressive about pronunciation or pieces not being connected properly, or similar, he gets annoying fast. Yes, just grab a train. I would recommend something that looks brick built. I got the Speed Train from a bit back ago and the big molded front car noses are basically useless in other builds besides speed trains. With brick built trains you have more room for custom ideas at the same price. Also for anyone who has never bought a remote controlled Lego train before: it feels like magic the first time you turn it on.

I was thinking more about the costumization of a place or thing you see everytime you get to play. The one above it's not just a box, but a Lego-dedicated box of a kid. He maybe tried to replicate the looks of those buckets that have all these bricks flying around, but struggled with perspective. Me and the gf just got into lego. We bought 2 classic sets, and some minifigs. Just built this speed demon. Classic is nice because of the whole "build your own thing which we wanted to do. I find it difficult however to build cool vehicles with it. Is it a parts or skill issue. My girlfriend however wants to build houses, and this i know is a parts issue. I'm wondering what sets that are available right now that would be good to buy for her so she can build better houses. when it comes to houses there are a few creator 3in1 buildings available too, but almost every line has buildings that can be used to build your own houses: creator expert (modulars, home alone house, the winter buildings), city, friends, harry potter come to mind first

The point of MILS is to be able to do collaboration with other groups. MILS essentially are a number of rules that allows to make huge displays while looking cohesive.

If you're just using it for yourself in your city the main advatages are the ability to easily remove and exchange modules without having to remove tiles etc. Since the modules are 4 plates high you can do lot's of terrain stuff including water features. And if you want to add lights you can put all the cables into the modules itself. To me though it just looks great and it's the perfect solutions if you got modular buildings and don't want to at cardboards under them.

You could use the body of a Star Wars Dewback (one of the old ones), they're sand green and without printing. The only problem is sand green long legs, which you could remove the printing from I guess.

This might not look very impressive, but it’s my first lego creation, a flower wagon.
Was very fun and learned a lot about the functionality of different parts, brick textures and shapes.
Hopefully I can create more cool things in the future and learn even more.

Just bought pic related and it's being shipped. Got it for $120 in good, used condition. The newer version is like $500 and I already plan to buy Boba's palace when it comes on sale locally since it's overpriced.

I really like the old figures. Something cute about them. And despite not having much printing on the specialty molded parts, I like their look a lot better.

I think the people abandoning their road baseplates are using the new road pieces incorrectly. But mostly because they didn't already incorporate modulars onto the road baseplates, don't moc, and don't utilize the new road pieces to build more vertically. The new pieces should be really good for spans, bridges, and other uses, but instead they have to think of new ways to make integrating them with modulars more expensive.

And I really don't understand the braindead that insist on putting unconnected plates under baseplates to give them height. Instead of just going to any hobby store and getting some sheets of foamcore of the right thickness.

I really like the old Harry Potter troll. His proportions are less cartoony than the typical bigfig mold. It's actually grotesque and scary looking. It's just an odd figure overall too; being in sand blue, a unique mold and with cloth garments like a belville figure.

I buy the 32x32 "strictly briks stackable base plates" from amazon because they're 1 standard plate thick and have connectors underneath instead of the official lego ones being flat on the bottom and an arbitrary height that doesn't match anything else. I made a speed champions parking garage out of them, but I could see them being a cheaper MILS substitute too. If you don't care about color you can get a rainbow 12 pack for $30. Can't beat $2.50 per plate with more practicality than the official thing. They also come in lego-colored dark bluish grey, sand, dark sand, blue, and green, but those colors will cost more compared to the rainbow pack.

It's a parts issue, Vlassic sets have a lot of basic pieces, but also a lot of colors, so for each color you aren't getting much.
I highly reccomend getting Creator sets. Three official builds and the piece selection is perfect for doing your own things, just look at how a tiny Power Digger set spawned a shitton of mocs with just a tiny selection of pieces.
