Should have been more clear, the technic race plane. It's coming along decently now, I have to get another one tomorrow though.I ended up putting some of the side arnor of the Slave 1 for armor on the mech's legs. I think it really helped.

I missed the previous threads spaceship call. I built this from only the extremely limited spare parts I have with me right now.

Ideally a bit of both. 1x's are fine if you cross hatch them, but fitting some 2x's where you can will give it even more rigidity.

For that top layer you will likely need some technic bricks pinned together to span it to prevent sagging as well, though it's hard to tell without seeing the whole thing.

I like my mocs rigid rather than frail so I always reinforce where I can.

Not a whole lot of cohesion or concept here so it's really hard to read what anything is supposed to represent. There are some cute compartmentalized elements like the cannons/antennae on the top of the model, and the white blaster or claw on the right. These simple nuggets would be decent in a more-composed prototype but here are lost in the mishmash. When you're new I suggest designing *one* element and - depending on your preferences - you do so in the same loose experimental fashion you're showing here. Just mash shit together until you find a particular shape, mechanism, or combination of parts that compels you and then use it to inform the rest of the design. Don't worry about a finished model for a loooOOng time - and don't sweat the part count - just learn the system, take pictures of nice ideas, and then once you have a flush economy of ideas you can slap out a real, informed prototype. Otherwise you'll get railroaded by some abstract vision of the "complete" model inside your head where "everything is filled in."

If you want a deliberate suggestion, try making *one* arm, leg, or mech structure and see where it takes you.

I will mimic what the other anon said, I was shite at mocing when I first started, I always wanted to build my stuff 'finished' but I could never make anything good, what he says about trying things out with random bricks and picking one thing to work on first really does help, after a long time of struggling to make a mec I liked I started working on just a head, I made multiple, tried different shapes and colours and finally landed on something I liked, after that I went section by section until I had a mec I was reasonably proud of, ended up remaking the head multiple more times anyway as my build evolved over time

I bought the Elves Dragon Sanctuary set just for the purple dragon it came with. It's way too cute. (I'd take pictures, but I took it apart during a move and haven't gotten around to building it again.)

I'm an ex-LEGO employee. I was an AFOL before joining LEGO and remain an AFOL after leaving LEGO.
Before joining LEGO, I too felt that many of the sets were overpriced (and this was back in 2016). However after being at LEGO for a while and seeing first hand the entire process of how a set is made (from design to engineering molds, to production, QC etc. etc.) I began to appreciate what makes LEGO simply amazing and why it is more expensive than other products. This is especially apparent when you visit a LEGO factory and just see the amount of care and quality control that goes into everything (I've been to Jiaxing & Kladno).

Now as an ex employee (left around 3 years ago) and still AFOL, yes I do feel that some sets are still overpriced (I still collect SW sets), but I don't mind as much now knowing everything that went into making the set.

I think the colours have to be in production for them to be able to use it, I don't think that they're able to bring back retired colours as they need the plastic pellets that Lego uses for each part in said colours

It didn't get enough purchases anyway so it didn't end up mattering, but I was into that troop carrier dropship set (forget the name). Attention Bricks and Pieces enthusiasts: I just got off the phone with a Lego customer service employee and he explained that with the new Bricks and Pieces system being combined with "Pick a Brick", the "Bestsellers" section will be the only one that is available year-round. The "Standard" section will be taken down seasonally, just as it was down and unavailable earlier this year.
I also asked him when new pieces from popular sets like 60346 will be available and he said he does not know for sure, but probably 2 to 3 months after the set is released. This does not bode well for people like me wanting to stock up on piglets and cows and Forestmen hats from 10309, or the new parts from the Kino Castle.
