Progress on the Iron Golem Knight MOC, had to use acetone to remove some paint and adhesive from the arms which destroyed the plastic, will have to order new pair of arms and some bricks to replace the glowy orange bits so it looks like its less ready for a rave.

Greenstuff the sci fi parts away into something that looks more steampunk/fantasy medieval.

What are some good torso/legs that are purely grey that fit medieval theme?

I would put plain gray torso with black groin and gray legs, then i would add black elements like spikes on flail, hilt, headplume, head. Still looks kindda mediocre, what ive learn from mocing small things (like weapons or somthing similar in size to minifig ect) is that the less, the better. Otherwise it looks convoluted and hyper cartoony like those furfag vidyo creations which were posted here. Or follow it if you dig overthetop look, whethever float your boat.

I was born in 1989 and no minifigure MOC ever made it into a lego magazine. They are lazy, consist of a few parts and accessories. They are for non-creative types. There is design involved other than playing dress up like you trannies enjoy so much.

Probably depends on the seller. I stumbled on some asshole with lots of cheap parts but his figs are like 15-$80 or more for figs that are around $3-20 each. Decided not to buy from that store for the parts I'm looking for.

This set confuses me. The action doesn't seem worth all the trouble, either as a toy or in-universe. It just seems redundant and stupid. Linking the engine action and landing gear is cool but its specific form and geometry is just so underwhelming. All around the paneling just seems incomplete and while I don't mind exposed technic in combination with what its lacking it makes it that much worse. I don't even want to know what this costs.

It's part padding. Same thing with the current available X-Wing. It has a bunch of technic pieces just to open the wings at the push of a specific part but it doesn't close the same way unless you close the wings manually. I would have been find with simple hinges that open and close the wings, but instead they're kinda wobbly and delicate because of a big technic system. Also the set is $50 which is absurd for what it is, and in critique R2D2 sits too high on top of the Xwing and the front landing gear does not retract. Otherwise a really nice build.

Thanks to the anons for some tips on moc building the other thread, I have started with a pilots helm/cockpit for my alien guys. Not really sure how it's going to turn out but I guess I'll just keep building outwards and see how it goes

I will say that the stand is part padding. Nearly 100 something pieces for a snow stand that doesn't actually hold the Droid in place. There's a 2x2 tile that the clear stand just just sits on.

Just finished the castle, here are my thoughts
>Set is basically divided into two halves, you get two instruction books for each one.
>First half of the set is a solid 10/10, building it felt fun and it never got repetitive. Everything is detailed enough to get good play value out of it, with the kitchen in particular being a highlight of good detail. The roof thatching is also really nice.
>Second half of the set is where things kind of fall apart, the interiors become notably less detailed, the thought processes and build techniques are far more basic and less polished than the first half too. There's also a lot of parts that feel unfinished, such as the top floor not even being fully enclosed.
>Second half also dedicates way too much of its design and build to the drawbridge and lowering gate, they're cool features but it feels like it helped totally zap the budget of this part of the castle.
>Build process of the second half is also torturous towards the end, it quickly becomes repetitive and I had to take a break when I saw that a whole bag was just dedicated to those leaf pieces
Overall I'd consider it worth my money. It's bland looking but feels like a sturdy fortress and has a lot going for it, the drawbridge and gate part of the castle just isn't as good as the first half though. If you've got any questions about a part of the set I'd be glad to answer.

As a display piece it's okay but as an actual Lego train set it's really fucking bad for a multitude of reasons I'm just gonna copy over from the last thread along with a few new ones

And another thing, the guy who got the set early leaked the manuals/sticker sheet already, and the fucking numberplate is spread across two different stickers because it has to accommodate the cab trim as well. Well in that case why not make the trim one sticker that actually matches the look of the movie and another sticker for the number plate instead of the horseshit they gave us?

Maybe I've been spoiled by MOC builders who have already made much better looking Hogwarts Expresses in the past, but I know Lego can do better than this. Asides from an easily-fixable gap the Crocodile was great, and the Emerald Night is still an amazing looking set nearly 15 years later. How did they fuck up so much on this?

Then we get to size comparisons, and right away it becomes apparent that it's too big for Minifig scale. Like I said before, most of the proportions of the details are in the right places (Like the rear-most drivers being farther apart than the front two) but some aren't due to their parts choice (Due to the size of the old 37mm Flanged drivers they're more bunched together than on the actual engine). Some details are just plain wrong though (ie: 3 footplates instead of 2). Overall this is a very weird model that will definitely be enjoyed by Harry Potter fans, but for Trainfags such as myself it doesn't really do anything for them.

To close off my rant, if you really want a Hogwarts Express that can actually run on Lego track and be motorized go buy the instructions for a Hall Class loco from Block Junction instead and bricklink yourself a version in Dark Red. It'll probably be cheaper and be more than just a static display piece.

I'm working on adding more Lego stop motion vids to my archive to upload to archive.org, and I was wondering if anyone happened to remember a certain Star Wars stop motion from around 2009/2010 where a group of clone troopers get ambushed or surrounded by droids & are forced into a brick-built building of sorts until help arrives
It was pretty low quality in terms of set design, the building they went into was made out of random lego bricks of different colours, and there was a clone trooper with a rocket launcher that was part of the squad (I think he uses it to blow the entrance up so the droids couldn't enter)

That's all I remember about it, I've got ~2500 videos and still have yet to find it; I thought it was from the "Lay-Wah Saga" at first, but unfortunately it's not from that series or person who made it
It was released around the time the Clone Trooper Walker battle pack was out

I'm also looking for "Indiana Jones in Lego City" or something along those lines, where Indiana Jones goes to Lego City and gets into trouble there with some sort of gang or mafia iirc - it's literally impossible to find, but I absolutely loved the series as a kid

It was called Epic Lego Battle or something, and there were 3 parts. It was just a bunch of random kitbashed figures killing each other in gratuitous ways. There were some exo force guys and some star wars guys, must have been around 2007?
The third episode had a final boss of an orange exo force guy with like a giant battleaxe and he was unkillable and destroyed all the other factions

There's a scene with a tank, and they blow it up by baiting it onto a mine

I don't remember much but it was a well put together animation

I can't find it anywhere

Finally got around to finishing my custom mosaic, it's the "Ohms" - Deftones album cover
There are 36 of the 16x16 "mosaic bricks" and it's separated into 4 quarters, 1 quarter is the size of a regular Lego mosaic set
Around ~8700 1x1 round tiles, I don't have anywhere to display it yet cuz it's absolutely massive/I don't have the frame attached but I wanted to post a pic of it anyways

Walmart has a three-pack of Stuntz sets with a case for $15, which is a decent deal since the stuntz boxes are $7.97 each. I have the case in medium azure and I'm still trying to figure out how to use it in a moc.

it's not a crack in this case. I just looked at my minifig from that set and it has those injection or mold lines idk what they're called, like on pearl gold or whatever. you can see it in this picture, but it does absolutely look like it's cracked, and I have to imagine may lead to cracking.

I reckon they crack there because that's where the mold line is and where the plastic meets itself in the mold. Still, really pronounced mold lines like that are odd since vintage figs didn't have that, at least not to that degree.

I'm thinking they are putting certain colors through higher pressures in the mold to try to increase torso strength on colors weakened by certain pigments.

I know 'small company please forgive' and everything but you'd think that a company that makes billions of plastic bricks would know how to do it well, but we constantly see things like cracking and color discrepancies and just overall poor quality assurance. I built the bookshop modular recently and the red roof has like 3 different shades of red that are supposed to be the same. minifigs are a huge issue, basically if you have a minifig put together you are ensuring that it will eventually crack at the hips, and if you have them on studs the feet will crack eventually.

I find hollow studs (ex, ones you find on jumper plates) prevent minifig feet from cracking, or at least minimize it
not sure why, might be due to the plastic used for those parts

never was into trains as a kid, but I remember seeing the sections for it in the magazines. I remember using the train designer on the website as well, probably spent a good couple hours fucking around on it. there was another like puzzle type game I recall playing on there as well but I can't find it.

Yeah they're more modular but at what cost. They are a failed experiment in my eyes but when lego makes such a structural change like this, they'll do it for a decade at least.

I'm not a fan of them for roads at all, with the tiles and regular seems between them they look like heavily patched up roads, looks good for certain sections but every road? nah m8, also if you use one strip as a double road you can basically only fit old/moced cars on it, everything Lego makes now is too wide for half of one new road plate, now you may say 'you should be using old/moced cars' etc but that's not the point, Lego is selling something that as advertised is incompatible with the vast majority of its vehicles, unless you double up and use each road plate as a single lane

god that pissed me off, they also radicaly changed the set layouts themselves, the first couple of waves after the return of the theme were pretty standard sets that clipped together, the anniversary and after sets, green roofs, are very boxy but also have like 1 complete wall each, they just seem very cheap and empty in comparison to the stuff before it, I also have no idea why they decided to use pic related for the majority of the floors, just makes the sets feel even more retarded

I recently took a look at old catalogs and realized that old Lego had tons of different sets and styles in one theme alone. In Castle, Space or Pirates you often had 3 concurrent subthemes in any year with tons of sets in each. Castle: Lions, Dragons, Forestmen. Space: M-Tron. Space-Police, Blacktron, Pirates: Pirates, Imperials, Islanders. Western: Cowboys, Cavalry, Indians, Each subtheme had often a a base or big vehicle, and most importantly tons of smaller sets. Castle hat tons of carts, siege engines, boats or very small buildings, Space had all kinds of wacky small vehicles. Pirates had rafts, boats, small islets. Town had tons of vehicles. Today the original themes have very few in that department, always adding more stuff to one set instead of making it separate sets. Also the promo art has become soulless. Old catalogs put the sets in a interesting diorama with custom buildings and interestings scenes in the background where figures and stuff from multiple sets are one big crowd. Today in a catalog, every set has to be distinguishable and is often placed on a photoshopped background where e.g. City just consists of the few sets and there is no custom stuff inbetween. Like as if your City will just consist of sets placed individually, instead of having multiple helicopters or cars from the same type to make stuff livelier.

Terrible take. Whatever minor improvements in build complexities and additional molds, Power Miners is an ugly, gaudy theme with absolutely terrible shapes and forms. Nothing looks cohesive outside of the shared bright green. Really the only thing I can praise it for is having rock monsters in most sets.
Rock Raiders like many themes of that era seems pretty well thought out and looks great together, and almost every release looks very well designed as an actual thing despite way fewer and way simpler parts.

a historical setting is a plus but I reckon one could make a good adventurers set set in current day india or middle east with the protagonist looting their temples. the motorboat set is a good start but it needs some kind of temple, greenery, wild animals, treasures and the ragheads should be wearing their traditional rags and look more rough, ISIS style, the modern beard piece would fit well, but make it more diverse with the other one wearing a turban. anf of course the minifigs should be yellow.

now that I think about it, if you combined the two sets and swapped fleshies for yellows, it would be a nice adventurers set. nothing that could rival the best ones but still a decent addition to the theme. the color theme on the temple would need some tweaking and I'd get rid of the catapults, never liked those. you'd have indiana jones (johnny thunder) trying to loot the temple while the prince of persia dude but in yellow tries to stop him and steal the treasure for himself, the ragheads in the PoP set would play the role of savages after some minor changes to make them look more middle eastern (especially the dudes in weird helmets). Damn, I might actually buy those sets and try to make them into adventurers kino, too bad they're probably like $500 together.

They're all pressure based, even the fightcircles that I thought would be a geared setup are just on a turntable base so there's no huge Technic gears or LED bricks driving up the price

As much as people shit on that AT-ST set from TLJ, at least you can use the parts that come with it to make a mech. All you get here are various grey and brown slope bricks and a lot of Amber. Going through the instructions the only build I found to be "neat" was these little minecarts using the hinge piece as tiny wheels

No way they would make it cost more than Optimus.. I've looked at tons of references of the original and the ideas build is very excessive and poorly textured. There are smarter ways to build that to cut off least 50$ and bring it to a ballpark closer to 150$

It all comes down to how the headshape is handled keeping it reasonable size and still recognizable.

Pretty easy once you get the hang of it, I started off with small builds to understand how to use digital lego programs
the obvious one to use is stud.io, which has a built in instruction maker that's highly customizable - if you keep adding steps while you build your stuff then it will transfer the steps into the instruction portion of the program, but if you only use 1 step then you'll have to sort everything out manually once you're finished (creating extra work when you could've just done it in the first place)

when you're done making instructions on stud.io, export it as a PDF along with the parts list (.xml file you can get by uploading the parts to a BL wanted list) and submit it to rebrickable
most things get approved if they're free, but "premium" mocs are picked apart it seems

Just checked; it does not. The tube on the underside of the 2x2 round brick is just slightly too small to fit around the raised lip of the plate.

I got fairly lucky with most of it. I bought out an entire bricklink store that had 800 like-new vintage figs and the owner took a bulk offer on it all back pre-covid when prices were a lot more reasonable. The rest I got from bulk lots on ebay and a couple garage sale / classifieds finds. I sold all of my cracked and badly faded ones out of the collection.

Alright here is my idea for a Lego theme. It’s colonial America with a supernatural twist and backwoods/fur trade focus. The countryside is populated by fur traders, Native Americans, red coats, blue coats and the occasional settler. The sets would be terrain and brick built monster based, with examples of the monsters being Loup Garous, Wendigos, Thunderbirds, Giant Snapping Turtles, Bigfoot and other monsters from Fur Trader and Native lore. The final big bad is an army of undead Norse draugr.

I use Bromite now and haven't had issues since; I think it might be the browser itself (or your device if you use iPhone)

I had lord of the rings orcs crack on their heels just from sitting on figure stands. That was during the worst era of lego's brittle brown though. Vintage figs are a lot less prone to cracking because lego made them using pre-dyed pellets instead of adding pigments to trans plastic like it does now. So they're more chemically stable, but that's the reason why colors were so limited back then.

The only cracks I did see are 90% under arms on the center mold line, so I just store them with legs off if they're sitting long term.

I think regulating temperature is the most important thing to lego pieces that are attached to one another, plastic expands and contracts with temp changes. A cool, dark place is the best to preserve Lego.

I didn't realize fragility with brown lego pieces was a thing until I read this thread but it makes sense. I bought the werewolf set from monster hunters for my 9 year old stepson and the torso / arm cracked after very little pressure was applied changing the arm out. Recently bought some reddish brown pieces, while I was aware of the issue I just needed some parts to finish my moc, so i took my chances. There was one 4x6 plate with hairline scar and minimal chip away. Dunno if seller wanted to jew me, but Ive got a refund for the part and mssg "i dont ship broken bricks, it must have broken during shipping", the thing is I couldnt find the missing chipaway part in a baggie, so im almost sure the part was broken before shippment. It sucks that the most affected color is a popular one, every person that wants to moc wood elements are risking while ordering used stuff, im just extra careful when handling my used/older reddish brown and im lucky that theres no direct sunlight/super high temp in my room where i keep the legos.

Arms aren't suppose to be taken off figures. It's seen as a complete assembly. And if you do, never take the arm off with it facing up, that puts pressure on the mold line, which is weak. Rather, put it at a 90 degree angle to the figure and push it back.

If you do have a new part break, Lego's customer service will just replace it for free regardless.

The solid visor, separate antenna, and detached backpack on the new one are all improvements IMO. On the other hand the more cylindrical shape of the classic one fits the minifigure style much better.

The phase 1 clone is better than the original in every way, absolutely perfect. New stormtrooper helmet looks amazing but it's huge. The overall shapes of the phase 2 clone and stormtrooper were definitely better in the originals. Like Boba Fett, the new ones focus too much on accuracy rather than fitting the minifig style, so they end up looking too tall and thin instead of short and wide like a minifig head is. Picrel is a better example of the current phase 2 troopers than that image though.

The old ones have their charm but I honestly prefer the current ones. The old ones just look kinda weird and melty due to the shiny plastic and lack of printing (chewy and the ewok look like chocolate). The biggest problem with the new ones is proportional issues again, especially with the ewok and gammorhean. Chewy is supposed to be like 8 feet tall though so it makes sense that he'd be bigger.

i hate this style. theres a point where detail becomes garish and offensive, and this is way past that point. i mean the pathway looks like a handful of bricks loosely put into place, and if the model was tipped they'd all spill out.
